Should I Switch?!
UpdatedHello. I was recently diagnosed with ADD and prescribed the generic form of adderall XR 20 mg. It works in very short spurts of time and I feel as if I have no control over the medication when I need to come down. I cannot keep staying up until 3 in the morning with 2 babies to take care of. I've read online that the instant release works better for people like me in terms of control. Should I switch? And how should I go about asking my doctor??

I'm very sorry about the insomnia, I know how horrible that is, when you have little ones to care for and spoil.
How long have you been taking it?
It usually takes about 4 weeks, or so, for your body to adjust to a new medication and for the side effects to wear off, so you should gradually start sleeping better.
The FDA classifies this medication as a stimulant, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, headache, dizziness, irritability, weight loss and anorexia.
What time of day do you take it? Taking it in the early morning may also help.
Does anyone else have any advice or ideas to add?
