Should I Or Shouldn't I

Updated

Hello Everyone, I really could use your help! I have had back problems for years, two years ago I had back surgery and came through it with zero problems, back to work in 11 days pain management was great, here's my problem. Last January I slipped on the ice and landed flat on my back after alittle time my DR. did an MRI but could not see anything so he sent me to Advanced Pain Management. There they stuck me 12 times which did not help so after 15 months and sssooo many different medications that just aren't working any more they want me to start Fentynal 25...but after reading so many horror stories of side effects and withdrawal issues I am scared to death. Please don't misunderstand I have severe back pain that stops me from having a functional life and I want to be pain free but after the stories from you good people I really don't think I have the courage to start The Patch Does anyone have any other pain managment suggestions? Any suggestions period. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I just read your post. First, I know what you are going through as far as the chronic sever pain. It's awful. I have been under pain management for almost 3 years now. Because of my personal experience and all the research I have done (tons) I would advise you to start out by using a short acting opiate, however many times a day your doctor prescribes, and go from there. Fentanyl is extremely addicitve and hard to wean off of. Actually, there is nothing stronger than Fentanyl then heroine. That is scary. There are other long acting opiates like, MS Contin, that your doctor might suggest 2x a day and then a few short acting opiates for break through pain. I would print all the responses you get from your post and show them to your doctor. Make sure him/her really understands your fear and that you just want to be functional without developing any addictive behavior. Make no mistake, long term use of any opiate will make anyone physically dependent. There is no getting around that. And any doctor that says otherwise is not knowledgeable enough and should not be treating patients with chronic pain.
I hope this helps you and I wouldn't mind if you emailed me back with any questions.
Best of luck to you!!

Yes. I have a suggestion. ANYONE with chronic pain should have their Vitamin D Level checked.

While that sounds stupid, you would not BELIEVE the amount of research there is relating Vitamin D Deficiency to pain- and particularly back pain!!

INSIST that your doctor take a vitamin d level and get your level up to the 'MID' normal range- not the lowest normal as they like to do.

Please look into this and insist that your doctor get your level done.
