Shortage Oxycodone (Page 4)

Updated

This is freaking ridiculous!!! Last month it took 3 weeks to fill the RX and this month, it's going on another 3 weeks. Pretty soon I'm going to have multiple scripts that I won't be able to fill any of them! This is going to screw up my whole cycle. I'm suppose to be taking the oxy with methadone at the same time for my pain. Do you realize how much gas and time I've wasted in the past 3 weeks? I've gone to the same pharmacy every day, you mean to tell me that none of them has them for the past 3 weeks! I get bogus excuse every like, ohh we can't fill methadone with oxy, or you need to be in the same county as your doctor, you are out of your zip code, we can't fill that many pills, you have never filled at this location....blagh, blagh, blagh!!! Or they tell me they are out of stock and don't know when they will be getting any, this should be illegal!! does the DEA understand what might happen when someone goes without their medication. I want a DEA to get hurt on the job and forced to take these medication and then all of sudden not be able to get any because of 'shortages'. I'm sure they would like the withdrawls and there's even a possibility they would die. DO THEY UNDERSTAND THIS??? I can't fill my scripts until after the 28 day cycle, although they r they reason why I can't fill going on the 3rd week, now I have to wait 28 days before I can fill and my dr's apt is next week!!! WTF!?!??! I've spend so much gas money just driving around every wallgreens and cvs just for them to roll their eyes and tell me off the bat that they don't have any. I feel like suing someone! How can we bring attention to the cause. Does someone have to die from withdrawls and their family having to sue the state/pharmacies in order for someone to care?? do they realize how much stress and pain they are causing us? I can't afford to be wasting gas just to track these down. Seriously, I've gone every day, spending 3-5 hours driving to each pharmacy and I'm only limited to local pharmacies since I have to stay within my zip code, which is ridiculous!!! The pharmacy in Longwood won't accept me because she said I'm out of the zip code, I live in LONGWOOD, it's even on my driver's license, although I live on the other side of town but still!!! I'm just so pissed and sick and tired of the pharmacist treating me differently, like i'm such a bad person. I'm just a person with pain, if that makes me such a bad person then so be it.

I feel bad about what you all are going through. I too have been going through it too. I have made a choice to stop all this madness. I have decided to stop taking pain meds. I have very serious problems with neck, lower back and both knee's. I have been wondering about something for the past 2 plus years and now I can stop wondering. Opiates cause more pain. Yes I did say Opiates cause more pain. I finnaly have the proof I've been seeking for 2 years. Of all places I found the proof at a rapid detox facility here in Florida. I'm slowly detoxing myself and it is vry painful but I have to do it because what I found out was more frightful than the detox. Anyone ever heard this term? hyperalgesia – increased pain. Check it out. If you want to know everything that goes on in your body when using opiates than check this out. Myself by cutting down I have already noticed the proof is in the pudding.

I have nothing to do with this place but I'm greatful for the full details of what is happing to us. I just skipped my pain clinic appointment and it was hard to do but in the end I know I will work out the pain somehow. It's takes a leap of faith to do this but I was always convinced that the opiates were causing more pain. The pain clinics are getting rich off of us and don't even care about us. I'm sure most of you have seen this lately. I even had a place to fill my scripts but when I found out the facts I got more upset at myself for not looking harder. Do yourself a favor and paste that address and read the one page. It won't hurt you to read a page. I can't go for rapid detox because it is 15 thousand dollars but it would be nice because it is only 2 hours and your done. Good luck with your refills to everyone and god bless. I know life with out opiates.

Molly, I am in the same situation as you and I have been on disability from all of my injuries for three years now. I am also facing several surgeries which have to be done at a University hospital which of course there are none in the current county that I live in. I have been saying the same things as you about the DEA. I wish that all of them could live in the pain that I have to endure and not be able to have any kind of pain medication. I also wish they would have to go through the painful suergeries that I have had with no pain medications. I called Medicare and there is no shortage and the pharmacists are making up stories due to pressure from the DEA. Every time you are turned down from a pharmacist you need to get their business card and write down what they say to you especially if they are disrespectfull as some have been to me. Then call Medicare back and they will file the proper complaints against these people. We all need to get together and fight this. Pharmacists and DEA agents are not MD's and have no right to decide what medications we should be on. They no nothing about our conditions or the pain we are in. Thank you for speaking out and good luck to you. Check with your insurance company to see if they have a mail order pharmacy and if they will fill them through the mail. Several of them will. Best of luck.

I'm afraid we are going to experience this in Va. Let's all of us patients who really need pain medication and group together and start fighting this goverment bureaucracy. NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

US Mail prohibits narcotics, but private sector overnight delivery services can deliver it, even across state lines; I used to get my scripts from the mfg. via Fed-X every month. Yes, the prescription needed to be there 3 weeks early, but they were pretty darn dependable even when I was occasionally late with my end of the deal.

David, maybe C 2 narcotics are prohibited, but I get my benzos and my spouse gets his C3 pain meds delivered thru mail from V.A. just wanted to share that. Blessings to all.

I agree with your post so much. What if all the DEA agents suffered from the pain that we do and could't get their medication? Or even worse they were on the medication and then had the problems that we are having. Oh I forgot, they probably wouldn't have these problems because of who they are. Most of them have never been through the things we have and have no idea what it is like to deal with horrible pain on a daily basis not being able to live a half way normal life. I wish you luck and hope this nightmare ends soon.

@ redd, it sickens me a Vietnam veteran who served our country can't fill their meds. As for the ignorant statements of others, they obviously don't understand chronic pain. God bless you and thank you for your service. I hope you can fill your meds tomorrow

i was doing the medco mail in service for a few months and then this month they call me and tell me they are no longer able to fill my schedule 2's anymore bc due to recent changes in laws in florida, you need to be terminal ill inorder to continue mail in orders...ex cancer, MS, or even arthitis...BULLS***!! and this was working out perfect for me since I didn't have to deal with walgreen's bulls***, but with my luck..I always get screwed...if it's too good to be true, it normally is!

@taylor, that's ridiculous! This state sux.Walgreens and CVS don't even wanna deal with c2 meds. The small pharmacies were my only hope. I still can't get roxycodone anymore, even from small pharmacies. The 1 pharmacist who filled my opana said as long as I'm not filling oxycodone or dilaudid, he'll fill the opana. So stupid bc that's what opana is, part of each of the previous mentioned. It's all about $$$. No profit in the roxycodone. Hope you have luck filling meds. God bless

After visiting numerous pharmacies regarding the oxys and there being none to be had, I've been told the following; Cardinal (the main manufacturer here in Florida and/or all the others) have reached the allocation for 2012; therefore the pharmacies now are ordering from manufacturers out of state which, of course takes more time to receive and get regular shipments going. The last of the shipments were given to minimal pharmacies last week so this has just happened and hoping that by Tues after the Labor Day holiday there will be some shipments received. Wishing all best of luck with this awful position we are all placed in right now. One pharmacist suggested to go online and lookup 'pain killer comparison' and it will give you a list of all the other medications that compare to the oxys and rate them by number (higher number, higher pain amount covered)

I think that they arent being honest with you. They usually tell customers "we dont have this in stock" when they have a problem with you. Sometimes they really are out, but you never know for sure unless you get ab honest person who says "hey your doctor has a bad reputation and we dont fill his meds" Whats your quantity? Walgreens in your area wont fill over 120 oxy IR pills, regardless of strength.

hello to all you other chronic pain sufferers! I am going through the exact same s*** I am 43 years old now in Port Saint Lucie Florida and I was born with a genetic disease called marfan syndrome! that is a genetic disease that causes all your joints to rip and tear , including your aorta in your heart! I have had open heart surgery they have taken my thyroid out, so on top of having an aneurysm open heart surgery in my heart, with both of my knees and wrists constantly caring and ripping I was also in a hurry sick car crash that a drunk driver boyfriend slammed my side of the car into a cement wall at 80 miles an hour, the car flipped 3 * and landed on the roof I now have herniated discs in my back arthritis all over my back tendonitis in my neck and shoulder and joints ripping and tearing and all parts of my body and heart problems! I have taken the same pain medication, Roxies , for the past 10 years and now all I have no doctor and desperately need to find someone who will take me for severe chronic pain in Port Saint Lucie fl. as I said I am a 43 year old
girl who is not going to get any better but only worse as time goes by! I have a 13 year old and a 10 year old to care for and it is not easy when you are cripple 98 percent of the time and in pain 100 percent of the time ,even with your pain medication what the hell am I gonna do without it??? olive you are right it was the junkies that ruined it for all the people with true chronic pain what are we supposed to do? something has got to change, if by some miracle someone in Port Saint Lucie is going through the same thing and knows someone or some doctor that would be able to help me please let me know??? I have all of the MRI and xrays and would the willing to go get them done all over again for any doctor that needs to see proof ! and I know this is a long shot and would take a true miracle but if by any chance a doctor in Port Saint Lucie Florida would read this, please contact me all I need is 1 long acting pain medication and something affective for breakthrough pain like the Roxie coming down I've been taking for the past 10 years I'm not a junkie I am just a victim, trying to raise my children and be a good mother and wife that is able to actually walk! I do know there is a God, someone help me please and all the other people with true chronic pain that is in the same position I am! god bless good luck to everyone if anyone can help me let me know fingers crossed!! you can contact me on my Facebook page Tracy McKenna

Me TOO!! I was doing mail in w/ Medco for 2 months and then all of a sudden there was a problem. The pharmacist called me directly and told me that they are no longer able to fill my schedule 2's bc I have to be in chronic pain....such as MS, cancer, or any terminal ill disease...you mean to tell me that I have to be dying in order for them to continue doing mail in order? That's ridiculous! He then said that even if I did have an illness that falls within their guidelines, my IR med needs to be like 10-15% of my ER med. So like 180 methadone and then 20-30 Roxicodone. How can these pharmacist dictate on how much medication one needs to be prescribed?? Did they go to school for 8 years plus and in debt up to their neck in med school loans! Supposedly this will eliminate fraud..whatever, just another company acting like god, just add them to the list with Walgreens and CVS...pretty soon I'm going to be forced to go to a ma and pa shop even though I have insurance and they charge $7-8 per pill! So pay almost $1000 vs $20!

This is absolutely outrageous and my heart goes out to all of you. I take tramadol for pain, and can only imagine being given an addictive drug for so long only to be told no one will give you any out if the blue. This "war on drugs" in the us is a joke. First of all, depriving thousands of a drug they need to get out of bed in the morning to maybe stop a few college students from getting high is the dumbest possible "solution" to this problem. Highly regulate distribution, sure, but deprive outright? Are they nuts? I'm so sick of hearing about people being denied their rights as citizens of this country. Fact is, the FDA is constantly releasing drugs for sale that are far riskier than the conditions they treat. Why? Because it brings in billions. Once people start noticing the high volume of deaths, only then do they pull that drug. Now they want to pull a drug that has helped millions of people live a normal, pain-free life. Wonderful. The morons running this operation should be fired and hopefully one day, they're experience being prescribed an addictive medication for years, only to have some idiot pharmacists tell them "tough. We don't have any. Have fun with the very dangerous and horrible out outcome. We really don't care if you're in horrific pain- as long as we don't get a "talking to" from the DEA. Please.
I recommend everyone try to find a mom and pop pharmacy and see if they have these same idiotic mentalities. Many don't.

Actually you're the one with the sad life, judging others because you're lucky enough to not have pain as bad as these folks. Truth is, if you're not taking medication and getting around just fine, your pain is NOT that bad. The older you get, the worse your pain will be and then maybe you'll know what it's like to have to take strong medication just to live a normal life. So judgmental and condescending, yet so wrong and ignorant. Do some research and keep your negative, self-important judgements to yourself. Its much sadder a life to feel the need to insult and bring down other people with serious medical conditions. Pathetic. I feel sorry for you.

Well this must be a problem specific to your state I am in Indiana and have had no problem with getting Oxycontin and Oxycodone filled. One suggestion either drive to a neighboring state or send a friend for you. Do this during business hours so that they may call your dr. explain the situation and beg for help.
