Sertraline 100 Mg Tablets Cut In Fourths (Top voted first)

Can Sertraline 100 mg tablets be cut in to four pieces and still be effective? My doctor has given me the okay to try different dosages. 50 mg is not enough and I would like to try 75 mg but Sertraline does not come in that dosage. I have 100 mg tablets and want to break them in half and then cut some of the havles in half to get 75 mg. Will doing this cause a problem with how effective the medication is?

There is nothing special about the tablets that will affect the medication if you cut them further, as long as your doctor has okayed it.

However, there is a 25mg dosage available, so it may be easier just to ask your doctor to prescribe a couple of them, so you can be more precise about the dosage.

Thanks for your response to my question about Sertraline. Once I know if 75 mg is the dosage my system needs I plan to get a prescription for the 25mg tablets. That will be so much easier that having to cut tablets!

Cutting the tablets does not guarantee a 75 mg dosage consistent enough to be as effective as taking the 2 tabs ( 25mg & 50mg) together. If 50mg isn't enough and 100mg is too much, the only thing to do is 75mg which means 2 tablets a day, 25mg+50mg.
