Septra Bactrim Skin Reaction
UpdatedI recently had a d&c and was given Septra after my surgery for a UTI (that I didn't end up having). That entire week I had symptoms that I thought was just from anesthesia recovery: stiff neck, sore joints, sore muscles. By day 7 of Septra, I broke out in a rash, it was flat red blotches, pin size and needle feeling all over and burning. I was told to stop the drug and given prednisone and Benadryl and zantac. After the prednisone was gone, the burning was back so they put me on Medrol dose pack for 6 days. My face would flare a little here and there but not bad. Yesterday was my last medrol pill and that evening it came back. My skin tints red, you can't notice if I don't mention it. But it feels like a sunburn on my body and face. It's been 12 days since stopping Septra. How long will this last?!?! And what can I do to help? It's making me nervous. I am a 29 year old powerlifter, so I was super healthy!

It sounds like you might be allergic to this antibiotic. I suffered similar issues myself, several years ago, 9 and a half days in to a 10 day dosage, I had one pill left to take, but instead, I ended up in my doctor's office with all the symptoms you described. To be honest, it took about a month, before they all went away.
How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?
The FDA lists other possible allergic reactions as including trouble breathing, bowy swelling, and itchy hives. Have you experience any of these symptoms?
Re: Verwon (# 1)
I'm definitely allergic to the drug for sure. I wish I knew before. That's good to know I'm not the only one! Once I stopped the steroids, the flares came back. I still feel the sunburn feeling and some joint stiffness. My doctor today told me because I'm a redhead with freckled skin, the allergic reaction last longer apparently.
Septra contains 2 drugs, sulfa plus trimethroprim. Most allergies are from sulfa.Your alleric reaction will subside gradually without further intervention so don't worry.
