Safely Stopping Concerta/methylphenidate Er
UpdatedMy son had SEVERE ADHD to the point of hitting teachers when he was 4 in preschool, so he was tried on many meds and finally placed him on 36 mg of Concerta and 1mg of Tenex for any left over aggression. When he was in 1st grade the Concerta was moved up to 54mg. Now he is almost 12 and he says he doesn't feel "normal" when he takes them (sometimes we skip weekends). What is the safest way to stop?

Since it does contain Methylphenidate, which is a psychostimulant, there can be some problems and rebound effects, if you completely discontinue it abruptly.
So, it really should be slowly tapered, to minimize the possibility of such issues occurring.

Have you consulted his doctor? They should be able to help you with a safe and effective taper schedule.
