Hello, I've had an abcess in my armpit for a week now. Five days ago, I went to Urgent Care and the doctor there prescribed SMZ-TMP DS to treat it. I've been doing warm compresses often to bring the abcess to a head to drain. Nothing is working. The infection is growing. Does this medicine even treat this form of abcess?

It can be used to treat it, but there is a chance it may not work for you, it may not be effective at eradicating the bacteria that has caused your abscess. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.
How are you doing, now? Has there been any change?
