Serum Insulin

My friends daughter is 18 years old. She had a cyst in right ovary. She was done cystecomy. She had serum insulin of 90 mg which just 5 mg above the limit. Doctor prescribed with glucomet 250 mg. Doctor said to avoid future diabeter and to reduce weight this is prescribed. This is not a continuos life time medicine. Once the weight is reduced this can be stopped. I am scared as this may cause side affect. Her sugar levels are normal. Is it really required. Please guide. Should it is really required to be given. Can this be controlled in diet.
