Rx Plan Changed From Benicar 20mg Tab To Losartan 100mg

Is the dosage strength equivalent? What if any difference are there between the two besides price?

The active ingredient in Losartan is Losartan potassium. This drug is manufactured by Teva Pharms.

The active ingredient in Benicar is Olmesartan medoxomil. This drug is manufactured by Daiichi Sankyo.

From what I could gather, both drugs are classified as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, used to treat high blood pressure. That said, the only differences I could find were between the chemical structures of the drug itself, as well as any other inactive ingredients that the different manufacturers decide to put into the pill. Both of these factors however can influence how the the drug absorbs into your system and therefore determine how effective one is over the other, which can vary on a case by case basis, depending on the individual.

To sum that up, they are different drugs that act in the same manner to lower your blood pressure, but you'll still have to try both in order to determine which one works best for you.

I have been on Losartan HCTZ 100/25 for several years. I have developed chronic watery diarrhea and lost approximately 15 lbs. Otherwise I am a healthy active individual approx. 77 years old. Recently I read an FDA article with new warnings regarding the association between Olmesartan and chronic diarrhea/sprue-like enteropathy. All tests including colonoscopy and endoscopy, etc. have returned no results that indicate celiac or malignancies or inflammatory factors. No other medications or health issues. Would appreciate any feedback from anyone experiencing chronic diarrhea who is also taking losartan HCTZ.

Hello I have also been taking the same medication for many years with the same problems, I have had endoscopy which found nothing. I am very happy to finally find someone experiencing the same because I have constant stomach problems.

I have been using Losartan, 100mg, daily for about nine years, without diarrhea, or any other side effects.
But recently the nurse practitioner, on behalf of my primary care physician, added Benicar, 40mg daily as well. But my blood pressure has shown no signs of improvement. I am stuck at 15o/100.

if you use benicar or losartan try using 1.000 mg 3 times a day or more of L-ARGININE a true miracle (no side effects) read about it and do yourself a big favor!!

I looked at the chemical formula for Losartan it only shows Cl (chloride) and no K (potassium)

I'm changing from Benicar HCT 40/25 to cozaar 100 mg. How likely would I be to have serious side effects? Or side effects at all? Cost insurance thing.

I had used Cozar without HCT25 mg since 2007-2008. Since 2008 I used Benicar 20 mg, later reduced to 10 mg even 5 mg. But on 9/2016 I messed up with other anti depressant medication, sleeping meds and Chinese herbal meds. My blood pressure got up. Benicar returned to 20 mg with a good blood pressure control. A week ago I had concerning changes of my renal condition and changed to Losartan potassium 50 mg and I regret this change.

I've been diagnosed with stage 4 B lung cancer. Have been off chemo for 2 months but still have cancer. My bp has been going up. Its running 150/110. That really high compared to what it used to run. Dr wants me to take cozaar 50 mg. Been on benicar for a while. I've already got a nasty cough from the lung cancer. What to do????

My spouse was put on the Losartan 50 mg. Just didn't work near as well as the Benicar. Don't care for it @ all!!
