Chewing versus swallowing the pill shouldn't have an impact of how it's chemicals effect you. At least to my understanding it does not change the chemical structure of the ingredients and how your body uses them.
Some people do agree that chewing a pill vs swallowing one could help it absorb quicker through your saliva. In your case however, I think if you don't want it to effect you as much, then you should simply take less of it. Maybe half a pill?
Medications can affect everyone differently; some people get great results from taking it, but there are others that it doesn't work for; the only way to find out is to actually try it.
