Rivaroxaban And Pain/loss Of Strength
(Newest replies first)
Updated
Hi all.
I was diagnosed with a large DVT and numerous PEs in both lungs in October 2015. I was put on Rivaroxaban and have found myself suffering with pain in my neck and shoulders, my knees, shins and ankles. I also have lost a lot of strength in both legs. I wonder if anyone else has had similar symptoms?
I noted the pain stopped briefly when I had to stop taking the medication to have a minor operation.

Please let me know if you switch to Coumadin from Riveroxiban and how you make out as I have been thinking of doing the same thing for the same reasons

Hi, I'm 37 and I've been on rivaroxaban 20mg for about 4 years to treat DVT caused by chronically blocked inferior vena cava. Since then I've developed stiffness in most joints, lower back, knees, shoulders, arms and neck, I also am extremely tired and go pale after mild exercise and daily routine. This seems to be getting worse. I have decided to switch to Warfarin to see if symptoms ease
I have been on Riveroxiban 20 mg. for around a year after being diagnosed with A. Fib. Initially I had terrible nausea and was ready to throw in the towel but luckily after suffering this for a few weeks I read that it was better taking it at dinner time and I had been taking it in the morning (no one had told me otherwise) After a few days the nausea stopped thank goodness. Unfortunately the joint and muscle pain with weakness in the legs has not. I also have swelling in the calf along with an itchy rash.I am not happy being on this medication especially since I have not had a bad A.Fib attack for some time but feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place - if I stop I could have a stroke but if I continue I have to suffer these nasty side effects.
I too have been diagnosed with a DVT behind my knee and down my calf and numerous PEs in both lungs in January 2016. I was initially but on on Rivaroxaban 15mg 2x a day and now on 20 mg once a day. I have recently noticed that I have extreme pain in my ankles and hips when I stand up or get out of bed. I also have tingling sensation in both of my hands. I have been reading several forums and this is normal, but I was wondering if my body will eventually get use to the medicine. My doctor is saying that I will be permanently on blood thinners due to the fact that my DVT occurred with no trauma associated with it.
Hello, Cliff! How are you? I'm sorry about the way you're feeling.
Yes, those can be typical side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache and easy bruising.
Can anyone else that's take it chime in?
