Risperdal: Should I Change Medicine?
UpdatedI'm at risperidone 1 mg, due to an acute psychosis.
I'm taking drugs since 3 years or so...
More or less 1 year ago i was taking risperidone but then i changed drug and after i stopped taking risperidone i had dyskinesia.
Now i'm taking again risperidone and i don't have dyskinesia but i think is because dyskinesia goes out when you re-take risperidone indeed some people after they realize they have dyskinesia they restart taking risperidone to get rid of it.
My doctor said it's time to go down with drugs because i'm okay.
The problems are two:
1) If i decrease the risperidone dose i'm sure i will have dyskinesia because when i stopped the first time with risperidone i had dyskinesia.
2) The dyskinesia will worsen because i can't change drug but just decrease the dose, because i'm sure if i say to my doctor ''i want change drug'' he will say ''choose, or we change drug or we decrease the dose'' since he's stupid and he thinks risperidone doesn't have any side effect (even if thousands of people told him ''i have a dyskinesia after decreasing risperidone'') and he thinks risperidone is the best drug.
What should i do? If i tell him ''i won't take risperidone anymore, i want change drug'' i can't decrease the dose because he will tell me ''choose, or we decrease the dose or we change drug''.
He's so stupid, i would just force him to take risperidone and then tell him ''risperidone doesn't have any side effect'' like he did with me.
Please help me.

Hello, Paul! How are you?
Just lowering the dose gradually may not result in the same problems you had from just stopping it. It doesn't seem that he's asking you to cold turkey stop taking it, just to try a lower dose.
If you don't at least try a lower dose, as he suggests, he's basically going to label you as an uncooperative patient. The best thing to do would be to lower it and see what happens.
Are there any other questions or concerns?
