Restless Leg Syndrome Drugs

I have severe RLS now, I have detoxed from Pramipexole (dopamine) over the past 5 weeks with support from my GP. The detox was horrific and the hardest thing I've ever had the go through in my 64 years. Now I'm taking 500mg Gabepentin and 1mg Tramadol. This combination has given me the first nights sleep in 5 weeks. I dont have pain so why do I require Tramadol? I'm scared to take the Tramadol away in case I lose my sleep pattern after going through hell and no sleep during the detox. I belong to RLS forums which give me wonderful support and I'd like some feedback about the two combination dugs that I'm on now. I'm very cautious and wary about getting too dependent on Tramadol. thank you.

Hello, Katy! How are you?

Only your doctor can give you the specific reason why they prescribed it, but I'm willing to theorize that it is due to the fact that Tramadol can cause drowsiness and sedation as side effects, as reported by the FDA.

As long as you aren't abusing it, there shouldn't be any real problem with taking it.

Can anyone that's taken both of these chime in with their experiences?

Why haven't you seen a Neurologist? They're the experts in RLS. I was on the Tramafol x3, hydrocodone and then OxyContin prescribed meds for several years and saw a Neurologist who put me on Mirapex now Mirapex ER AND IT WORKS. No opiates no pain meds and sleep is great. Generics didn't work for me and the drug is expensive. Many times our drug plans deny coverage. Search the web, as a Pharmacy called EAGLE in Lakeland Florida dispenses it directly from a German mfg very reasonably.
