Relief For The Joint Pain?
UpdatedI understand that there are many side effects of Eliquis. My 41 year old husband has been on Pradaxa in the past and had severe side effects. The dr. has pleaded with him to stick to this one for at least three months, as it is very difficult to get his INR right with Coumadin. What can we do to get some relief from the joint pain? My heart is breaking he is in so much pain. (We're trying heating pad and staying off his feet--right now pain is in his ankles, earlier in the week, it was his knees).

Hello, Denise! How is your husband doing?
That has been a very common complaint from people taking Eliquis and is a known side effect of it, as listed by the FDA.
He may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache and easy bruising.
Typical side effects tend to taper off, after about 4 to 6 weeks, once someone's body gets used to the medication.
However, given that he is in such severe pain, you might want to speak to his doctor about prescribing something that he can take for the pain, in the meantime.
Did the doctor make any other suggestions to help?
Hi! Thank you so much for the reply. They've suggested heat compress and tylenol when it becomes unbearable. Otherwise, he didn't share that they had any other suggestions. (I wasn't at the last appointment...won't make that mistake again. I tend to ask 10x more questions when I am there.)
It's good to hear that the side effects tend to taper off. That's hopeful.
All the best for a healthy 2015! :-)
No,the pain just won't stop.I'm on Eliquis for 9 months but still have joint pain. Not to bad during the day but pretty bad at night.Tylenol Body Pain Night gets me some sleep. So do we have to choose between pain or a stroke ?I still do not know what to do.Maybe I give it a few more months.
Hello, Eric! I'm sorry that you're in pain.
Alternatively, you could try a different medication. Not all of them may cause you the same problematic side effect.
Have you discussed it with your doctor?
Hi Eric, we agree! The choice is hard. He's also experiencing increased irrability and his fuse is much shorter than normal. I'm certain it's the result of constantly not feeling well. He has an appointment on Wednesday, which I can't be at due to my boss doing a site visit. But , I called the doctor to share my concerns. I'm so concerned for his health. However, with a chad score of 0, my biggest hope is that they will take him off of it all together.
