Refilling My Valid Xanax Prescription Early (Page 25)
UpdatedI only see one doctor and he gives me a 3 month supply of xanax. When I went the last time he wrote me out a prescription but I still had two refills. I had a friend and her husband passed away and I gave her some of mine thinking I would have no problem re-filling the prescription. I had sense enough not to go to the same pharmacy and not to give my insurance information. So I go to this small drug store by my house and I had to fill out paperwork such as dob, name and my DL #. Well they paged me to the front of the store and advised me that it was 7 days to early for them to re-fill. So my question is where can I go to re-fill a prescription that is valid written by the same doctor. I only tried one place, I'm guessing they must have a data base if you try and refill your prescription early (even without your insurance) does anyone have advice on where I can go to get this filled?
I think it's all about what state you're in for real.
It can be more than 90 pills in 30 days. The pharmacy cannot tell your doctor what they can and can't prescribe. If you get a prescription of 4 pills a day, making that 120 pills in 30 days, the pharmacy can't say no. And most pharmacies will allow you to refill a xanax prescription between 25-28 days after you last got your prescription. State laws may differ slightly but only on how many days early a prescription can be refilled and that's usually at the pharmacies discretion. I've had pharmacies that will fill my prescription 5 days early and I've had ones that will only fill it 2 days early. But the pharmacy cannot tell your doctor he or she can only prescribe you 90 pills in 30 days. They have zero say in your treatment.
You have to tell them it's a change in therapy. This has happened to me on several occasions with no problems.
Stella, Federal Law gives pharmacists the right to not fill any prescriptions they believe in their Professional Judgement could be harmful. It is up to each pharmacist if they call the doctor and discuss this with them.
Stella, some pharmacies won't prescribe more than 90 (schedule IV) pills in 30 days due to insurance. In my case it's express scrips. I was getting 5 xanax .5mg when I was paying cash. My doctor changed it to 3 xanax 1mg as my insurance won't allow more than 3 pills a day. The mg dosage doesn't matter. That's the ironic part. They would fill 3 2mg xanax if prescribed but not 4 .25mg. lol
As far as getting xanax prescriptions filled early it can depend on the pharmacy or the state. The DEA has no exact definition of how early xanax can be refilled but some states have their own legislation. I've heard that New York and Florida are pretty stringent.
I live in Indiana and I can typically get my xanax refills 3-4 days early. Most insurance providers will allow refills once 75% of the script is gone but the pharmacy has the most discretion and typically won't.
In my experience one pharmacy to avoid is CVS. I have had major issues with them here in Indiana trying to refill xanax even 1 day early.
Cvs will fill only2 days early and they are very judgmental if wanting sooner. I had a pharmacist at target in Louisville ky at Jefferson blvd lie straight to my face and said they couldn't get it for three days and sent me to another cvs. I think her name was Brittany, she was blonde and a disgrace to her profession.
Kerri I would suggest to stop playing games with meds that can kill you what if your friend was on other meds had a reaction and died that's if you didn't abuse them that why u ran short ask yourself why your breaking rules and looking for ways to break regulations most people don't run into these problems and wait until you try to get off them hell on earth I say this because I've herd it all and said and done all the excuses I i read get honest
Kerri your prescription may be valid but giving it away refilling early looking for ways to get over the pharmacy aren't valid they have these rules for a reasons so us addicts don't kill ourselves someonelse or make. A ton of money of the taxpayers you have some pretty slippery ideas most people don't think like that have you ever wondered if you have a problem
This is EXACTLY what I am going through right now! I am going out of state for vacation and been seeing the same doc for years. ALWAYS get them on Monday of my refill. I see my doc every other month at 28 days. He gives me 28 days of subs and 30 of alprazolam. Insurance COVERED IT!!! I went to pick it up because it's always on Monday of the opposite month I go. They've filled everything at the same pharmacy for years!!! I know them all and a new pharmacist won't do it because (I don't know why) he gave me 30 day supply. NEVER!!!! Always 28 days which is 56 per month or refill. She said I got 60. I looked at my box (films) 30 per box and it said 60. Now idk what the script said. Don't remember but one box was open and I had 56!!!! Sooooo the ONE month I'm going away with family and friends of the whole year. I can't fill for two days!!!! Idk what to do? I don't have a car or way to get home and can't afford to pay out of pocket in another state. I'm on state insurance. I am beside myself. They will ONLY do it if my doc calls. He's only in Tuesday-Friday. So I go away and go into withdrawal or not go away when it's been planned since last year (same vacation every summer). What do I do??? I'm so upset.
Just cut your 2mgs in half, and in half again if you must. It's not that hard. What's hard is being completely hooked on BENZOS; which, it seems you are (said w/no judgement). You don't need another 30 days of a lower dose when you've got a script of bars and you know your dr. will understand, that's if he found out which he won't. So, your ahead in the game of refilling BENZOS, when he cuts you completely off, you'll be glad they're up there to fill.
You are so right Bridgette. It looks like I just lost my prescriber, he is very old and will probably retire. I am still working off of a 2 mg bottle from 2014, and the next one is from 2013. I plan on getting around to my current remaining refills although they are slated for use around 2020. You see Xanax is poison and the more you take the sicker you will become. The key is to save some for a rainy day, in my case a rainy year. Benzos should be removed from the market!
You do not get addicted to them, maybe physiologically at worst. I was hit by high voltage lines and the arc blast burned my right arm 4th deg and my clothes caught on fire while using an aerial lift.
I was 40ft in the air and it would not go down. All my clothing burned away and it took 10 mins to lower the boom. I was burnt 70% 3rd on my body. In a coma 3 months and had to learn how to do everything over again. I suffer from ptsd and nightmares and I have been on alprazalam for 10 yrs. I can go 15 days without taking them. No problem I take 4.5 mg daily. My sleep suffers for a day or two but that is it. No withdrawal symptoms. So don't worry about it just try to take it as directed and be careful driving they can make you sleepy and it is easy to nod off.
George , Xanax and other benzodiazepines can be physically addicting. Psychological addiction is far worse than physical addiction and much more difficult to treat than physical addiction.
Have your doctor give you a small prescription for 4 a day instead of 3 per day. If you fill you will run out, ask the doctor to prescribe 4 per day. Let him know you only use an extra if you wake up and cannot go back to sleep.
Most doctors are reasonable. If yours is not, then I highly recommend you fire your current doctor and get one that ACTUALLY cares for his patients. Just that simple.
I am prescribed 10mg Oxycodone 30 a month once a day and 90 10 mg Methadone tablets 3 times a day. I filled them on May 23rd they fill at 28 days which I thought was today. Do they not count the 23rd? I have had 12 surgeries from a drunk driver hitting me head on thank you
What state do you live in, cause different ones have different rules.
This is an old thread so I don't know if anyone is checking it anymore, but things habe certainly changed. It is much harder to get doctors to write benzo especially at the doses talked about on here. If you find a doctor who will never leave then because you may not find another. And now of course there is definitely a database that knows every controlled substance you fill. It goes by name not but insurance. So no matter where you go they will know what you filled what dose and who gave it to you. And it is not just pharmacies doctors also have access to this database so they know what you filled and from who. So you cant go to one doctor and get benzos then go to another to get more. BIG brother really can see everything now.
The pharmacy should hold your new prescription until you are out of the current medication. It is the law.
Docjj, there are no laws that say a pharmacy has to hold a prescription for a patient for any reason.
Curious80, each state has a Prescription Monitoring Program. Over half of the States are connected to PMP in neighboring States.
