Re: Occasional Drink

Hello Everyone,

I've been taking Nucynta for about two months now, and I have a very special dinner party that I'm going to be attending with my husband. I'm not a big drinker, but the thought of socializing with new people makes me nervous!

Has anyone had one alcoholic drink while taking Nucynta? I asked my pharmacist if I could have just one drink, and he told me he couldn't tell me it would be OK to drink while taking Nucynta, for legal issues. I know people aren't supposed to drink while on opiates, due to respiratory issues, but I've had an occasional glass of wine and been fine. I just haven't drank while on Nucynta - and I don't know how different this drug is in regards to other opiates?
I'd appreciate the feedback!

Actually, I'd have to recommend not drinking while you are taking it.

Rather than just the regular warning, this one actually says that dangerous side effects or death may occur and that is not a warning we normally see on medications. In most cases taking them with alcohol just causes worsening of the regular side effects, so it is very unusual to see this as a warning.

It sounds like your pharmacist is new, or new to you and isn't sure where his line is, since he didn't explain anything. Usually, if the pharmacist knows you, or has more experience at the job, they will tell you that they can't tell you it's okay to do whatever you've asked about, but will explain why.

For instance, when I asked mine about my medical condition and one medication I wanted to take, I was told they can't tell me to take it, but they can tell me the possible risks associated, so I could make my own decision.
