Ran Out Of Oxycodone 3 Days Early.
UpdatedI take 2 5mg oxycodone tablets 3 times a day for the last two years., sometimes a couple extra over that. I had a disk problem with major pain. My back has been doing much better for about 8 months now, I can actually walk again without my left leg giving out on me. Now my problem is I can't get off these damn things. I had tapered a couple months ago down to nothing and didn't have the awful withdrawal symptoms I have heard about, some discomfort but not terrible. I thought I was done but as life goes another issue popped up and I ended up with a kidney stone, never experienced such pain in my life, so I had to reach for the oxy again, very disappointing. I never realized when I started taking this med just how addictive they really are and my doctor never explained this to me either.. The kidney stone problem is done, knock on wood but I'm still on these things. I ran out 3 days ahead this last month and spent 3 days in total agony from withdrawal. For some reason my doctor is now making me wait 30 days instead of the 28 days he was doing in the past to fill my script? I will never go off these things cold turkey EVER! So now I'm discouraged and picked up my script, I want to wean down again but after the last few days of hell I'm going back and fourth with this. So sick of how this med takes over your life. I would like to say if I had known from the start just how addictive this drug is I never would have started taking them but I also know what debilitating pain is so sometimes there is no choice, its a double edge sword. When I had the kidney stone and I was in the hospital I was begging for anything, and the oxy barely touched that pain. I do not handle pain well or the discomfort of withdrawals, So here I am again back at square one. Sorry for the ranting but after three days of hell I'm in a crappy mood!

Hello, Sarah! How are you? No need to apologize for your rant, that's why this site is here.
I understand the kidney stone issue, they are very painful. I've had 3 of them and it's horrible. In the future, as long as you aren't on fluid restriction, try to make sure to drink at least one full glass of water each day to keep your kidneys flushed out and working properly, that will help prevent them in the future.
The FDA classifies Oxycodone as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
And yes, it is very hard to get off of a medication like this. I stopped high doses of it and Morphine cold turkey a few years ago, after 7 years on pain management and I'd not wish that misery on anyone. A slow taper is best, though it does get tedious.
Does anyone else have any ideas or advice to offer?
