Rls And Methadone

I was on methadone for 13 years for cronic pain but I also have severe RLS and methadone took care of both and gave me my life back but then. My doctor quit without telling anyone and all of a sudden my meds were gone. I was off of methadone all of a sudden with no problems at all and no withdrawal at all. I don't understand why others would have that problem but now I am back in terrible pain and my RLS will not let me sleep more then two hours at a time. I go to a pain clinic but all they will give me is lortab or higher and it helps for 4 hours but I don't like taking it at all. It can hurt your liver. I want my methadone back and I don't think it is fair that because some people abuse it the ones that need it can't get it. I never had to increase my dose and I never abused it. Now I have to drive two hours every 30 days in the state of Al. To get something that does not work as well and can kill your liver. I have never even seen a doctor at this pain clinic in Huntsville, Al. I only see a PA. Never even seen a doctor. I think some people are getting rich on this set up. Something should be done about this. If anyone knows what I can do about this please help me. I need help

Hey there so sorry to hear that. I would find another Doctor doesn't seem like yours has to much compassion. Is she a pain mgt Doctor? I go to a Internal Medicine Dr that also is a pain mgt Dr. Sometimes it takes more than swapping just to another Doctor. Go on Health Grades. com and put in what type if Doctor you need and check them out I found this out the bad way
Before I got my Doctor now the Doctor I was using all of a sudden started cutting my meds back and I have the following;
Congenital Spinal stenosis
Bulging herniated disc thoracic
Degenerative disc disease from thoracic all to lumbar
Lumbar Disc herniation
Fibromiligia
Bi-lateral irreversible chronic carpel tunel
Osteoarthritis in spine hands elbows feet knees.

Find a compassionate doctor so you can have your life back. I am fixing to have a spinal fusion in lumbar. I wish you the best and hope that you can get the best help available to you.

Di, there is no guarantee that another dr will treat you with Methadone. Each dr has their own way of treating their patients. If you haven't been going to this new dr for long you may want to stick with it a few more months before changing.

A dr can write you 3 30 day prescriptions at one office visit for a Schedule II med, although very few do. So having to go into the office every 30 days is because you're taking a Schedule II med and that dr chooses to have their patients come in once every 30 days. I seriously doubt you will find any dr that won't want you coming in every 30 days, signing a pain contract and doing drug panels as long as you're taking Schedule II meds.

My daughter is on methodone for RSD and the pain clinic would not give it to her. She went to some drug clinic and this is how she gets it. We live in Baltimore Md. Hope this helps.

Even if you don't already suffer from RLS, you most likely will have mild to severe restless legs when withdrawing from opiates and methadone. And after taking methadone for a long period, there's probably no medication that will give you full relief from the RLS.
I dropped my methadone dose down to 5mg after 3 years of MMT and jumped to zero immediately. The RLS was insanely awful and for the first 2 months, I did not sleep and it did not let up. Eventually I was able to start sleeping 1-2hr increments working my way up to a YEAR later to finally achieve a somewhat normal sleeping pattern and complete relief from the RLS. Hot baths, hearing pads, and Ben gay muscle cream provide temporary relief. There is nothing worse than the insomnia from RLS.
