I am sure you have your answer by now but let me enlighten anyone else who may have a similar question. Most oxycodone is instant release except oxycontin so the "affect" is usually felt in 20 to 30 minutes when taken orally. Opana on the other hand is time released. Opana is oxymorphone and is several times stronger than oxycodone so a smaller dose is required to get the same results. If taking Opana as prescribed a constant amount should be released after the initial time release. If your are experiencing periods without relief, perhaps you should ask your physician to provide something for break through pain. I would suggest 10mg percocet or to avoid acetaminophen poisoning, perhaps 10mg oxycodone.
There is really no way a doctor (or anyone else) can know ahead of time how any medication can affect anyone. They can only assume that it will be effective based on medical records, current health, age, what the condition is, whether or not any other medications are being taken at the same time, etc. Any of these factors as well as others can affect how you respond to this drug.
Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to actually try it. Do you think it is just as effective as Oxycodone even though you don't necessarily feel it as fast? It may be a slow release version, or it could be that the inactive ingredients in this Opana pill are making it absorb gradually, rather than all at once. Just a thought.
Doc Dean is absolutely right, well at least in my case. I was taking Oxycodone 30mg 5x daily, in May I finally got insurance. Doctor changed me to Opana ER 20mg with Oxycodone 10mg for breakthrough pain and I am finally able to function again. The Oxycodone 30mg were doing the "able to function" for me, until the pharmacy started pushing the KVK Tech products on me, which didn't work for my pain and had many side effects (bladder, no pain relief, headache, attitude problems on and on). I am so thankful for the Opana. 1 pill every 12 hours and none of the ups and downs of my pain medication wearing off, that I had without the ER.
