Pulmonary Embolism And Xarelto
UpdatedI am a 60 year old female with scleroderma, my lungs are affected and the capacity is reduced, I was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism after I had the flu , I feel I was missed diagnosed, I have had the same problem before, however I was on vacation and my specialist was not available. After two visits to the ER it was decided that I had a pulmonary embolism in both lungs? I was put on Xarelto and sent home. Two days after I woke up with my left leg swollen and in pain, I was rushed back to the ER, did an ultrasound that showed no clot , and was diagnosed with deep vain thrombosis. I have taken Xarelto 15 mg twice a day , my head hurts, itches and I am anxious. My lower extremities hurt, fatigue . I had another Doppler on left leg done and it showed no clot. Is there any way possible to find out if I was missed diagnosed? I do not want to keep taking this medication that makes me feel so terrible, and I am afraid that if I get hurt there will be nothing they can do to stop the bleeding. I am supposed to continue medication for 6 months but the doctors that read the CT scan used the word possibility of clots in my lungs.

Sorry about your DVT. The DVT -deep vein thrombosis is a blood clot. You would need medicine. Best of luck and a full recovery.
Hello, LM! How are you?
You are always free to see another doctor and get a second opinion. Your records can be sent to them, so they can look them over and see if they agree with the diagnosis, or not.
But, as Berry has stated, if you had DVT, you'd need to take such a medication for it, too.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of Xarelto as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising.
Have you tried consulting a specialist?
Thanks for your reply, I did go see my family doctor and he did not agree that many of my problems were caused by the Xarelto, I insisted to change my medication and he did, now I am taking eliquis
And most of my problems have gone away I feel much better, no pain in my leg, no headaches,I know that Xarelto is not for me, maybe is the reaction because my blood vessels are restricted because of scleroderma, not sure. I am going to see my specialist Thursday and see what he recommends
I'm glad you're doing better.
And just so you know, you are not the only one who's reported such issues from Xarelto and more people are complaining about it every day.
Please post back and keep me updated.
Thanks Verwon, I did go see my Scleroderma specialist and he agreed with me, I probably did not have pulmonary embolism, the problem is hard to diagnose because I have lung involvement, however he suggested I remain on the blood thinner just to be on the safe side. I am back to normal and feeling great. Life is good again??
