Prozac And Ms Contin (Top voted first)
UpdatedHi all! Just wondering if anyone has been prescribed both an SSRI (Prozac) plus pain management such as MS Contin with breakthrough percocet? My husband needs something for depression but I didn't know if it would be safe to take (they tried him on zoloft and it caused him to have horrible back pain). Thanks for any experiences!!

I've taken Celexa (an SSRI) that's closely related to Prozac, & have been in Pain Management for years. I had a botched Spinal Fusion surgery so unfortunately I was on high doses of MsContin with Percocet for Breakthrough pain for years. I am currently on Opana with Percocet for BT. I'm Also really sensitive to Serotogenic drugs usually, & I've NEVER had a problem with any of these drugs being taken at the same time. OF COURSE have your husband's medical professional monitor his progress. Hope this helps.
There is a possible interaction, you can read about it on the University of Chicago Medicine site. They warn about the risk of Serotonin syndrome.
It isn't that they cannot be taken together, but a doctor should be closely monitoring the person if they care combined.
Is there anything else I can help with?
I have been on citalopram which is an attitude to present any cousin to Prozac, whatever that means.
I've been on the opioids since 2008 for chronic pain and is citalopram (Celexa) for quite a few years. Haven't had any problems. I agree with what someone else said about watching out for serotonin syndrome. I can only say as far as my personal experience goes I have had no problem.

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer!!! I really appreciate first hand experiences ????????
Re: VerFree (# 1)
Thank you!! I've read the studies and of course a doctor is prescribing but they don't know everything (I've been a registered nurse for over 30 yrs so I can attest to this lol). I was more looking for someone who has actually been on a combo....I tend to trust actual people on these types of meds more so than the books??

It helps so much to have a real person's perspective! I never feel comfortable until I've spoken with folks who actually take the combos. Thank you SO MUCH for taking your time to answer ??
