I had my 1st injection December 2015 with no side effects or problems except my insurance is refusing to pay saying it is an experimental drug. Don't know if it is worth fighting them for. ## Hello, Judy! Yes, it was approved by the FDA to treat Osteoporosis back in June of 2010. What is your diagnosis? If you don't have Osteoporosis, that may be why they are saying it's experimental. It could be that it's just not approved to treat your issue. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including administration site irritation, redness, swelling, headache and joint pain. ## My diagnosis is osteopenia, not osteoporosis (yet). That explains why they are not paying, even though my Dr. Recommended the injection. Thanks so much for your input ....
I had my first inyection by the end of June. I am 57 and had an spine fracture. Befo re prolia I was taken biophosphonates. So far so good, no side effects. Worried about the comments read. ## Hope everything is going well for you and that you will get improvements in your bones strenth. For me, unfortunately, taking a single injection of PROLIA on May 24, 2013 has resulted in ongoing suffering, as I have described in my earlier comments on this website. Would be Interested to know if you are still feeling no side effects 2-3 weeks after injection? ## Just had my first shot Monday feeling kinda like I've been poisoned. Hope this gets better , on my 4th day. Please tell me it gets better. I won't take it again.
I have had one only PROLIA injection this was eight months ago, no second for me!! my first side effects set in for me 5 months in with a stiff and very painful neck plus TMJ pain, these two have subsided some however my latest is ITCHY scalp, I a wondering how long this will last? Two months in I had a bleed in the back of my eye, this is now improving very slowly, to me it is PROLIA related. I know my side effects are minor compared to other posts. What a weird drug this is to cause so much pain and distress. It will be interesting to see if in the future there will a legal action as there was with Fosomax!! BTW I am 79. ## Two days after receiving my first injection (and my last for sure) of PrIolia, I have dozens of horrid painful, itchy, burning lesions all over my body and scalp. ...
Doctor is making a fortune prescribing Prolia for 80 % of his senior patients. I was a healthy, very active hiker and runner. I agreed and to two shots over 12 monthw. When I refused a third shot, the doctor said he had "no time for me". When I questioned the cost of the Prolia with all my insurance ($5000) he responded "what do you care?" I can no longer hike or even walk two blocks. I had no T scores and never saw the dexsascan. Will I ever regain the strength in my legs again? I can barely walk. I was so healthy and active before 2 shots of Prolia. I never had a broken bone. I have lost all my strength so fast. Dr. is not interested. He only wants his cut of the $5000 shot.
UpdatedI had my first shot in November, My back ached nothing major. That went away but I have severe muscle pain in my arm where the shot was given. I can barely lift my grand baby. I called my arthritic doc and he said oh he has not seen anyone with that complaint. I went to my primary doc who wanted me to go to PT . I said why are you sending me to PT when I am telling you I did nothing to cause damage to my arm except have this shot. I am left with un answered questions if prolia caused this and after reading posts afraid to take it again. I did well with reclast but it did not increase enough bone density in my hips, actually they got worse. ## Hello, Lizabeth! How are you? Yes, arm pain is listed as a possible side effect of Prolia, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience skin ra...
Have had osteopenia for few yrs., recently diagnosed with osteoporosis in lower spine. First prolia inj. Nov. 2013 and felt good for a few months. Then UTI which I rarely ever had before - bladder feels tender all the time. I am now 76. Use treadmill 20 min when able and yoga stretches. Plan to increase exercises regardless and just rest often. After 2nd inj. I had severe reflux for several weeks, then abdomenal pain and bloating, bowel issues. Now Ive had a headache, jaw and face pain for several days. Stiff neck. Nothing has helped it. I suffer from hypothroidism, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia, so widespread pain is no stranger to me, but this is different. Keep pain Medications to a minimum. Wake up stiff for longer than usual. Currently taking ice packs to bed for burning hands and...
I am under 100 lbs and have had 2 prolia shots and now experience hip pain. Should I have had a smaller dose due to my low weight? ## Hello, Jane! How are you? Yes, the dosage isn't adjusted due to weight or age. As to the hip pain, that can actually be a normal side effect of this medication, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience administration site irritation, redness, headache and nausea. Is there anything else I can help with?
These are my only problems. If this a side effect of prolia? I'm due for my second shot in December ## Hello, June! How are you? It can cause a dry mouth and throat and it only makes sense that if you're dryer, your saliva would be thicker. You may find that sipping water frequently may help, unless you're on fluid restriction, or ice chips can also help. The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, loose teeth, constipation and abdominal discomfort. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks...I will reconsider prolia now
On June 16th 2015 I received my third Prolia inj. The first two did not cause me any pain but I have had weight gain and insomnia from the first shot. After the third one, on June 17th my hips spine shoulders neck were so painful I could hardly walk. I am 70 years old and have been very active in my life. I feel old for the first time in my life. I am depressed, fatigued, I lack strength and stamina. I will never take another Prolia inj again. I am a retired nurse and read the possible side effects but since I didn't have reactions of pain on the first two, I went ahead and took the third shot. Biggest mistake I have ever made. My question is how long are the side effects going to last? ## Hello, Carol! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're so miserable. As to how long the...
Is it possible to inject only half the 60mg say 30 mg then wait a month and see if side effects are bad before deciding to inject the other half? I know the auto syringe is set up for one full injection but I wonder if it can be opened and hand injected with another syringe to inject only 30 mg as a precaution ## Hi there, I tried this with my GP re a small dose, not on he said, I am now into my 6th month of my first injection. I shall not be having another as in this last month I have had stiff painful neck with back of skull soreness., I do so hope that this will wear off with time!! I also had a bleed behind my right eye,his this I am sure was related to PROLIA!!
Hello my name is Susie. In july 2012 I had my first inj of Prolia. A month afterwards I contracted flu like symptoms, another month down the road i became very ill again. I went to my primary care doctor and he told me it was a viral infection and it would have to run its course. Another month passed and then the symptoms now worsened. The symptoms were as follows: weakness, muscle pain, loss of appetite with severe weight loss, fatigue. At this time I thought something very serious was going on inside my body such as, cancer, or my life was being taken away from me. 6 months passed. 2nd round of prolia the dr assured me that this was not coming from the inj. I was 49 years of age now 52. I worked everyday of my life without missing anytime from work. now I am completely disabled due to...
Wondering if weight gain is a side effect? ## Hello, Gayle! How are you? Yes, it is listed among the possible side effects provided by the FDA. You may also experience hoarseness, joint pain, loose teeth, heartburn and insomnia. Is there anything else I can help with?
I had my first and only Prolia shot on 2/24/15. I have exprienced severe swelling not my right knee starting exactly 7 days after getting the shot. I like to exercise - walking daily. I am unable to do this now. Will this poison really be out of my system in 6 months. HelpZ, ## Hello, Diana! How are you? I'm very sorry about what happened to you. It will be out, yes, but there's no way of knowing how long any possibly issues that it caused will last. Many people have complained and had to stop taking it. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, joint/muscle aches and headache. Has the swelling gone down any? ## There is an entire thread about Prolia side effects. Go to the medwatch home page and type in Prolia in the search box. ## Diana I wish you all the best and pray...
I am a female 68 years old usually very fit (aerobics swimming walking dancing) After this injection I had earache neckache then that ceased for a while but instead all my muscles are stiff. When I get out of bed and try and stand up IFeel like a 90 year old. I insisted on getting an xray on my spine and L5 has been damaged also t8 and there is a reduction between c5&6. The neurologist doesn't think that it is the prolia but I don't accept this. In the meantime I am going to see a spine specialist when I have had my ct's. ALl I cansay is it is like a dybuk has entered my body. I now have to learn how to deal with the damage. Any ideas are welcome ## Hello, Diane! How are you? I am so very sorry about what happened to you. Yes, I agree with you that it could be the Prolia...
I had a shot about 4-5 months ago(due for another one), doubt I'll put that into my system again ! I now am havin bi-lateral hip pain that awakes me every night, and when I walk, I'm stiff !!! Never had these things before, so it seems to me, that the longer it's in your body, the worse off you are ! JMHO. Sent a letter to MD that gace it to me w/black box warning and it said "druge not to take". I have not heard fromher on that note. She probably has nothing else to offer me. She stopped RECLAST after 4 doses,b/c she was getting lomg bone crumbling fractures in some of her patients. So we shall see what the next round of "poison" people will think of for us !!! Good Luck to you all ## Hello, Antonette! Sorry about the pain that you're experiencing. You a...
AMGEN has now admitted to us that PROLIA can cause SEIZURES. My 84 year old mother had a prolia shot in April 11th, and by May 8th she was in hospital with urinary infections and seizures. Doctors couldn't figure out what caused it. Again in September she was again admitted with urinary infections and seizure like symptoms. Mother has been in hospital for months due to this and now needs 24 hour care. I believe AMGEN should pay for this and am looking for a lawyer to take it on. I will post more when we get more results and proof, but BEWARE OF PROLIA.... IF YOU HAVE TAKEN IT, MAKE SURE IT IS ON YOUR DRUG LIST FOR PARAMEDICS AND DOCTORS AT THE HOSPITAL... as it is administered only twice a year, it is easily left off the list. ## I am very sorry about what happened to your mother. I...
I had 4 shots of Prolia. I am not taking it any more as my last bone density test showed improvement. During the time I was on Prolia, I had a cracked molar and it had to be pulled. Now there is exposed dead jaw bone in my mouth. Oral surgeon said it was not ONJ, but at that time I had only had the problem a few months. He also treated me for an infection in the area with antibiotics. Now the exposed jaw bone has been there for the better part of a year and is not getting better. Has anyone else had this problem after dental work? Any treatments help? ## Prolia ...since April 2013... continue to experience jaw pain with difficulty eating which in-turn am still unable to put any weight back on. The rheumatologist finally accepted the fact that this medication indeed was responsible for a...
Received my first Prolia injection in June. I have osteoporosis of the spine and osteopenia of the hips. I am 62 and in good health otherwise, do not take any other prescriptions except for vaginal premarin cream. On November 3 for no apparent reason I had a stress fracture in the right foot below the outer ankle. It is still not fully healed, but is much better. A week after the stress fracture I did a slow motion fall, while hobbling around on a relatives driveway, hitting their mailbox post, (with not much force) causing a type II shoulder sprain which still has not healed. My general physician referred me to an orthopedic specialist on Thursday to see what is going on. My GP recommended not taking the second shot this December. The gynocologist is the prescriber of the Prolia. Will ...
I have noticed that since starting Prolia I seem to always have a cold, stomach problems, sore/achy joints, and headaches. I am 46 and very athletic but this drug has taken a toll on my body. My white blood cell count has been affected as well. I am on Prolia because I had a breast cancer diagnosis in 2008 and my doctor felt it would help protect my bones. But I feel it is doing quite the opposite. My immune system has been altered in a negative way by this drug and it's not worth the gamble knowing my health history. Sorry Prolia but I'm out. Best regards to all! ## Hello, Trace! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems you've had. And you are not the first to report such annoying and ongoing long-term side effects from Prolia, many people have suffered similar is...
This was my 3 prolia injection, right away the worst arthritic attack wrists & hands, exzema head, eye involvement, very weak. blood work all over the place. have had 2 pancreatic attacks, 1 bowel blockage. Spent all my time resting no choice, finally in October felt a little stronger, able to walk around, no driving yet. I felt there was light at the end of the tunnel. November able to do groceries, small things but improvement. Then last week of November extreme weakness of the legs and arms unable to support myself, and my brain is off again hard to concentrate, I am feeling discouraged, when will I be OK. Everyone considering this drug please make sure you know all the side effects, I was told there were none. It is up to us to check for ourselves. ## Hello, Danielle! How are yo...
