Prolia Side Effects (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
I was given a shot of prolia 8 days ago. I am suffering from pains in my arms and legs, digestive discomfort and nausea. Has anyone had this shot as I would like to know how long these side effects last as I am unable to work at the moment. I really feel terrible and I am worried this may last a long time.
I have no osteoporosis, although I dislocated my wrist Dec 19th, 2010, was sent to Post Fracture Osteoporosis Clinic was not told about any side effects, nor was told it was a trial. It was Prolia that sent me brochure and told me to call if I need anything.
I started getting cramps in legs, very fatigued, hard of hearing on left side, was confused, walking was difficult, and on May 19th, I called their nurse. I received this injection by a doctor in the hospital.
She told me that I should go to ER, which I did, they took blood test, everything was OK, didn't know about Prolia,
Had neurologist look at me next day.
The cat scan showed fluid in my ear, nothing to be done there.
Then in June I developed large hard bumps on the gums, and swelling, I was sure I would lose my teeth,
saw the dentist at the hospital, they took pictures, am to see the dentist Aug 29th to see if the teeth have spread more.
In June, I developed red blood blisters on the both legs, dermatologist thought I had vasculitis, bleeding from organs and all veins, after blood tests etc, not so. Prolia will give you rashes, blood blisters and other marks on the body. Plus I have bloated breasts, and have developed the last week terrible pain in my right side of the stomach, nausea, don't sleep well, and wake in the middle of the night very hot, yet on the warmest days, I am cold.
My family doctor took the same blood test that was ordered that I should do 2 weeks before getting the 2nd shot of Prolia Oct 6. She wanted to see if I developed some things that might have surfaced because of Prolia.
In the meantime, I am counting the minutes before this 6 months are up. I am worried about my gums. I stopped calcium pills, as I see the big lumps on the gums are slowly receding.
This is the same poison as Fosamax, Actonal, and giving this to fairly healthy women who have no osteoporosis, is downright unethical. Saw my rheumatologist who now is giving Prolia, and right away he said, these are not side affects from Prolia, and with this he ended the meeting.
Sad to say, big Pharma is ruling and we are the guinea pigs that are paying the price.
Furthermore my heart is also trembling, and I am not a smoker, nor a drinker, in fact, I should be enjoying the spring and summer, but have so many problems, that I am in bed, with horrible pains, cramps in the muscles, and horrible gums.
The doctor who gave me the injection, considers himself a scientist, in his e-mail he said, failure is not an option, only success, he doesn't even want to see me.
Gave me a referral to see an ENR re fluid in the ear outside in the hallway.
So much for professionalism.
I previously posted in March. It has been 3 months since having my Prolia shot. This has affected my digestive system, I am constantly bloated and miserable. Also I get pains in my arms andl egs and the worst menopausal symptoms which I had finished with two years ago. I do not sleep well and constanlty break out in a hot sweat. My calcium level is on the low side despite taking calcium and D3 supplements which seem to constipate me. I am 62 years old and do not think I will get another shot. In fact I cannot wait until this wears off in the next three months.
I took my first shot of Prolia On April 27, It has been 2 Months and I have felt terrible everyday. I will never take this shot again. I will Just take Calcium and Vit D from now on. I have been in Pain, I have been sick, I dont sleep well, I have had 2 UTI's ... I pray the side effects will go away when the 6 month's are up.
I received my shot of prolio 9 days ago. By the third day, my left thigh felt uncomfortable. By the 8th day, it was extremely painful. I would like to know how long the side effects last.
I posted a while back. I am now in my fifth month and things just keep getting worse. I do not sleep the hot flushes are terrible and I have all kinds of GI issues.I feel terrible all the time. Is there anyone out here whose six months are up an dfound the side effects went away. I am hoping that I will feel better after the six months - but how do we know?
Prolia is used to treat or prevent Osteoporosis, specifically in post-menopausal women, it contains the active ingredient Denosumab.
I'm glad to hear you've had no side effects, however, they can include: skin infections, jaw bone problems, irritation at the injection site and hypocalcemia.

Does anyone else have experience using this?
I had my first injection of Prolia on 4/1/11. I have not had any side effects
Thanks for your info lynne, will paste and send to my friend, as she,s had simular, and is just waiting till it gets out of her system, like you she has bad digestive problems before anyway, now a bit worse, along with other things including sleep probs.
Think some people cant tolerate strong chemicals in their system, think l,d be the same, as its often people with allergy immune probs who dont react well.
I feel the same, praying the 6 months will be up October 6th. Now I have gum issues, very sore, and the big lumps have not deminished. Dentist took imprints and will check Aug 29 to see how much the teeth have spread. I hope I won't lose my teeth, besides the bloating, the sore throat, the numbness and all the other symptoms that I had and wrote previously are still there, including had some blood in my left ear this morning, this is where the fluid was found, probably the jaw pushing the fluid into my eardrum. Horrible stuff, never, never again, will I take anything, Doctor's don't tell you, they are promoting the Pharma's trials and obviously their glory is more important then patients well being. Shame on them.
I agree the Doc's are pushing this drug way to fast ...
I used to work in a hospital pharmacy and the drug reps would come in a push certain drugs .... for cheaper prices to the pharmacy ... Shame on them too.
Wow! I am astounded by all the problems people are having with this and very sorry to read of them all. I sincerely hope that everyone starts feeling better and finds some other solution.
I also strongly encourage you all to report your problematic experiences to the FDA, that is the only way they can learn about these types of issues with medications on the market and it is an important part of their considerations on drug safety. You can call them and report these problems at:

Does anyone else have any questions or experiences to share?
How are you doing now? Still now side effects? Please let us know
Pharma Co called to see if I am going to take next injection of Prolia October 6th. A million dollars wouldn't convince me to get it. I am on a monthly dental check up to see the spacing and the bulging bones in the gums - have trouble with jaw/ear fluid, other previous injuries are now coming up with new bone growths and excrutiating pains - sweats, not sleeping - terrible fatigue - no end to this nightmare.
Hope this will be the beginning of the end of the 6 months, but the nurse for Prolia didn't have an answer.
The doctors are dismissing it, saying its not Prolia.
But most don't even know what this drug is. All I hear is that more and more patients are coming to see their doctors and all say the same thing, they received a Prolia injection.
I have not written for a while as I don't beleive that justice will prevail here. It is unfair to so many innocent victims that are suffering greatly and, in many more cases we probably will never hear about because they have no voice. It is terrifying to know that so many people lost their ability to live normal lives because of the permanent damage of this poisoness injection on humans' bodies immune system. I have received a single injection of PROLIA on May 24, 2013 simply because my annual routine bone density result showed some signes of osteopenia. I had no idea that this could ruin my normal active life for such a long time. Although the horrible severe intensity symptoms that I have described in my comments several times in the past on this forum have lessened by now, I continue suffering periodic attacks of this poison that took a hold in my body. Every 3-4 weeks I become very ill, loose energy, can't sleep at night because I get pains in bones and muscles in different areas all over my body, gastroenterological inflammation. Also, the floater that had appeared and remains in my eye shortly after that injection gets more bothersome during these periods, which last about 10 days each. I no longer trust doctors, as they really don't understand the damages of some drugs that they are prescribing to their patients. The apology from the doctor that I received, reporting it to FDA and AMGEN is not a substitute for my lost good health and my normal life.
I am terrified to know that this poison continues being injected into others, feel sorry for all those that suffer and for their families that witness the suffering and don't know how to help their loved ones. I am trying to do everything I can to overcome the damages that I suffer from this drug and hope that some day these attacks will stop coming back and torturing me.
I sencerely wish all the best and relieve from suffering to all victims of this horrible drug. If there would be a Class Action Law Suit, I would be glad to participate in it to get justice for victims.
No Honey she is not alone, I talked to, of all person my Pharmacologist he stated he would never take any of this stuff they have out there. Sad isn't it ;-( Even Doctors don't trust this drug!!!
After getting the Prolia Injection...I had severe itching all over and in 3 weeks after a horrible rash on my body. The inner forearms were the worst....
I was given an injection of steroid which didn't even touch this rash...I had to go on oral steroids and creams....I also lost half my hair...it keep falling out and still is....My breathing got worse and my Asthma and Bronchitis were bad and after being on the steroids for about 3months and weening off of them....I have severe pain all over.... especially severe in my hips and knees....I can barley walk and my body feels like a mack truck has hit it...
I have always had GI problems & Crohns disease and this made it so much worse. I am also hypoparathyroid and take high doses of Calcium and Vitamin D regularly...but the cramps still keep coming especially in my feet. My teeth are hurting and the dentist is next.....Sleeping is not good....and since I feel so Crapy, my mood is bad and I am real "b****y" which is not like me....
There will be no more Prolia for me and hope this helps others when deciding whether this is the right drug for them or not.
My resistance is so low the Bronchitis got worse as did the Breathing and had to now go on antibiotics.
The minor problems are the numbness in fingertips and headaches. I am hoping all this stops after the 6 months...but I have this feeling....I might be dealing with this for quite some time and hope there are no more surprises.
I live in the UK where Prolia has only recently been made available. Having had bad reactons to Fosamax type medications my hospital consultant was very keen that I start this new medication and assured me that I would not suffer any of the Fosamax side effects and that the only problem I might experience would slight skin irritation. I received the injection on 30the June and the skin problem started straight away with itching all over followed by a small flat mole on my arm growing to the size of a marblel and then the sore throats and problems with air con at work. These all seemed to resolve themselves until about 4 weeks ago when the bentyl medication I have taken for 11 years stopped worked and I had the most awful IBS symptons. My doctor tried me on various other meds but they all caused the same reaction - things that were supposed to soothe bowel spasms now caused them and the pain has been horrendous. It has only been through reading other comments on this site and thoroughly investigating the side effects of Prolia that I realise that this is probably the root of all my problems. All my muscles ache and I even have problems wearing a bra because of the pain. Through food elimination I think I may be having a reaction to all spices even the hidden ones in food and so far I can eat rice krispies, custard and chocolate. Not ideal and as I am slim I can't afford to lose much weight. Although my own doctor has not agreed that Prolia is the problem she thinks my problems will eventually resolve themselves - I think I will have to wait until the 6 months are up so see what damage this has done to me. My analisys of this medication is that if you were very well you may be able to tolerate it but if you have any health problems they seem to have been exacerbated. I have no idea how a medication that interfered with the immune system was ever passed as fit for human use. I fully expect to hear a lot more people having bad reactions in the UK as more people start receiving it. Has anyone else had food type problems after having this treatment? Roll on December 30th.
In Oct. of last year I posted looking to see if there was a class action lawsuit. My sister lives in Canada and I just drove 1500 miles to be with her. She was in intensive care with a staff blood infection. This was just another effect of Prolia in her system. The drug is gone but the side effects remain. Her immune system is destroyed. Surprisingly, she was discharged at 80 pounds and now lives at 84 pounds and continues to fight for the life she had before Prolia. All the statistics are for the U.S. and still nothing there - what about Canada? What about North America? This is unbelievable with thousands confirmed dying in the U.S. alone. Many, many thousands more are dying and the doctors do not want to admit their responsibility and the cause of death is left as general and not the cause and effect that is the reality. Prolia is ruining people's lives and killing likely 10's of thousands.
Re: Marman (# 3006)
My advice to you is do not have any more infusions. I had 7 before I absolutely refused to be bullied into more. Every GP assured me that my symptoms were not related to Prolia. I changed medicos several times and not one agreed that my body aches and pains or thyroid problems were associated with it. I have an aching jaw on the left side.which is really bad at night and when I contacted Amgen Australia they said, yes they can be symptoms but they are very rare. My dentist found no problem with my teeth. They either lie or not many folk contact them.I am 81 now and I rue the day that this poison was foisted onto me.
