I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
Lifestyle changes while we figure out other meds and such to prevent falls:
Night lights
Remove scatter rugs
Good shoes
Osteo healthy diet
Exercise program
Supplements
Counseling
Support groups (this one!)
Coming off Prolia, a person will have a worse score than before I've read - - so, really Prolia just makes the numbers look better, and many of us sicker, even permanently injured, while no healing of the Osteoporosis is taking place in treatment.
Judy, you don't need the prescriber's permission to get a second opinion.
Actually, Linda , I just had a front crown put on 2 months ago due to an infection caused by dry mouth(i.e , Prolia) . My dentist, once the infection was treated with penicillin and he also drilled off the rest of the decay , put on a temporary crown and 7-10 days later put on the permanent one. I had no problems with breakage. Maybe it depends on where the crown is. Good luck and I agree with Poodle , don't wait any longer. I had only been off Prolia 7 months. My dilemma now that I've stopped Prolia is what do I do or take now. My T- score is - 2.8 which scares the day lights out of me. I also want to get a second opinion but the gyno who prescribed it is not too cooperative!
I've been on temporary crowns.....some breaking, some remaining stable until permanent comes in. Depends on who is making them, but dental work proceeding well. Jaw pain abated 75%. Trouble with breaking crowns, the remaining tooth can "float" and permanent crown will not fit correctly.
Linda~it seems that you are in the clear now so please tell whomever you are to start on them or you will find someone else who will. That should get the ball rolling for you. I would advise against temporary crowns because they break so easily and in my humble opinion it is better to wait for the real crown. Be well~Pood
My injection was December 31, 2015 so it has been 16 months. I didn't ask why the dentist isn't doing a bone graft, he just said after looking at my X Rays, he said it wasn't necessary. I just wish it wouldn't take so long.
Linda~if I may be a little nosey here. When was your last injection and what, if any, Prolia side effects do you still have that could possibly hinder the placement of titanium in your gums and a crown on top. Sometimes offered is a temporary crown. Are they overly worried that the Prolia would eat up the cadaver bone they have to use? I don't understand this long wait for you. Hugs~Pood
I have exactly the same issues, I just told the women in my office that Prolia ruined my quality of my life.
Someone asked about what was in Prolia. Yes, from the ovaries of a chinese hamster..... Here it is:
Active ingredient: denosumab (produced from CHO cells [CHO: Chinese Hamster Ovary] genetically engineered). Each 1 ml pre-filled syringe contains 60 mg of denosumab (60 mg / ml).
Excipients: sodium acetate, sorbitol (E420; 47 mg / ml), polysorbate (produced from genetically modified maize) and water for injections.
Please read the book The Calcium Lie by Dr Robert Thompson OBGYN - you will find Excess calcium causes Bone loss and you need to balance your minerals and eat right. Your bones need minerals. There are other diseases from too much calcium. Lots of good information. Bad supplements are not always the answer.
Hello everyone,
I used to post here. I avoided taking Prolia due to not trusting my doctors ever again. I just saw this link (below) online. If you had a femur fracture from Prolia you can sue. Good luck! I hope you win. Don't take any drugs or treatments without fully researching all the side effects yourself.

Lynn, I have the same problem but mine is worse. I came down with the worst itching all over my body down to my feet. I can hardly walk, my skin in red, it's crucifying pain, my legs are swelling, also the itch is also on my head, my skin is all dry and I have to buy special shampoo. Doctors know that Prolia is poison. It's all about the money. All drugs are made from animal parts. I am looking for the name and what part was used for Prolia; it's a small animal that looks like a rat. I had it here but I cant find it right now. When I find it I will notify you.
Well said, Marianne.
Think of the taxpayer $$ that could be saved by providing Yoga clinics instead of the $1,600 a pop for Prolia. I am now doing Yoga for Osteoporosis by Dr. Loren Fishmen.
Prolia is a poison drug.Doctors suggest their patient it builds bones that not true its a bout the money that drug cost$400. and doctors get a percent out of that its greed .that Prolia ruins your life it crucifying pain that last for months.
When i posted it on Facebook my friends asked what is it? That's how informed we are in the USA.
a wee bit more info on it : It's approved for people as young as 50. The CDC recommends it for everyone 60 and older who doesn't have a medical reason to skip it.
Shingles is most common in people 50 or older, those who have medical conditions that keep the immune system from working properly, or people who take medicines that suppress the immune system. It does go on to say if you have a currently depressed immune system, skip it until you are well again.
The current shingles vaccine is recommended for people 50 years old and older. It does seem to lose some strength when we reach 70. They are working on another one that will cover more than the current 90% and will not weaken over time. And, yes, one should never get a vaccine while being on Prolia. That would be a huge mistake. I even did not take my flu shot after coming off of Prolia even though I was sure I was clear. I did not want to complicate anything.
My dentist is very conservative with the healing but I want to push the dates up since I can't stand this top denture.
Don't let any doctor tell you that the rash is not from Prolia. I had excema when I was a child and had never had it anymore until Prolia. I now have several rashes along with the excema. It was caused by taking the Prolia shot and I quit taking it and I am suffering occassionaly with rashes and excema and It has been 2 years since I had my last shot. This stuff is dangerous and I will never take it again.
