Prolia Side Effects (Page 4) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
At this point I have decided not to take another shot. The side effects are just to hard on me. At some point you have to decide the quality of life you want to have. Staying in be is not what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Hugs to All
I have talked to a few Doctors, but the one that impressed me was my Pulmonary Doctor. He new what Prolia was and told me that he would not talk any of the drugs for Osteoporosis that are out in the market today. He stated that they do NOT know what the repercusions to these drugs are down the line and the at some point you have to go with quality of life instead of just taking another drug. I have COPD and this drug only made it worse. I was actually feeling fine before they gave me this shot. I hope to get back to that point. Hugs Sedona
For me, fortunately I found this site before agreeing to take the Prolia shot. I went for my annual physical this week. The Dr. commented that my Endo Dr. had prescribed the Prolia inj. He asked how I was doing. I went on to tell him I rejected the injection. He asked why. I told him about this website, and of course he went off telling me I had to be more open minded. The shot is what I need. I said NO, I don't. He said well, only those experiencing the problems are reporting. I said, even ONE reporting was good enough to keep me from the injection. I fully agree with all, this terrible drug should be stopped immediately. Yes, every time I see Blyth Danner, I also question the ad. Good luck to all on recovering, I am one of the lucky ones.
Im going to tell you it is not a good drug, even one of my drs said yesterday that the shot scared him. I have had numerous side effects after my 2nd shot. 24-7 itching and a red rash all over my body, jaw pain, neck pain, one tooth broke completely off on one side! ($500 crown) kidney stone and the list goes on! And I'm one of the lucky ones! Most of the gals on the shot faird worst than me. these things happend to me before I saw the list of side effects of the shot. It is timed released and I still have occasional itching and red spots. it will be one year in Nov since I had the 2nd shot. I hope this helps with your decision about the shot..
Good for you! Do not take this. Who would willingly take a shot of poison? I am 75 years old and have 3 TRAUMATIC fractures of L-3, 4 and 5 (not osteoporotic fractures) that happened when I had a twisting, torquing, fall during a recent move to our new home. I have been told for 35 years that the Dexascans showed that I had such severe osteoporosis that I was lucky to just be walking and that if I had a fracture, it would never heal and I would probably be dead within a year. All of the drugs have been prescribed for me, including Prolia and I have refused them all and I have interestingly never had a fracture before now. The incredible thing is that the doctor who repaired my L-4 fracture said that my osteoporosis is only MILD and was not responsible for my fractures (that my twisting type of fall was what caused them) and that the other 2 would heal on their own. That was about 3 weeks ago and the pain has resolved and I am confident that the fractures are healing, This leads me to the inescapable conclusion that the Dexascan is not an accurate predictor of bone integrity and this is borne out by many recent studies. These meds have been proven to cause way more problems than they prevent and yet the drug companies persuade physicians to keep on prescribing them and patients, trusting their doctors, keep on taking them. Do your research. The best way to prevent and/or cure osteoporosis is with diet, weight-bearing exercise, Vitamin D with K1 and K2 and dietary Calcium - not drugs!
I took one shot with no side effects. Three months after second shot I started suffering back pain, neck pain upper thigh pain, muscle pain and severe joint pain. That's all but two of the common side effects listed in their information guide. Still suffering at the end of 12 months and I refuse to take another shot even though my medical professionals say they don't think this pain is caused from Prolia. I'm worse off than before I took these shots.
I don't know where your Dentist got his info but I'm of the Prolia shot now for almost 30 months and still suffering the same side effects after shot 1,2 and 3.
DO NOT TAKE IT AGAIN ! ! ! IT IS POISON TO US !
Let us hope that this vile drug is removed from the market before any other side effects become apparent. After two shots I have had enough and will not be having the third!
The increase in bone density is due to an accumulation of old bone cells. You are just as likely to have a fracture on Prolia as if you did not have it. In fact, Prolia changes our body's own bone production, causing new bone to cease being made.
The side effects which are legion, coupled with the immune and bone system tampering make Prolia a very dangerous drug!
Had my 2nd shot of Prolia about 5 weeks ago. Will never have another one as I should have learned a lesson the 1st time. I have aches where I never ached before, sore mouth and tongue, severe itching at times. I feel moody and depressed, not upbeat like I've always been in the past and sometimes I feel very nervous about even the little things of everyday life. It happened more quickly after this injection. Last time it came later - about 3 months. I wish there was a way to get this out of my system. Would not advise it to anyone. I just wish I had listened to my OB-GYN about continuing on with hormone therapy which she highly recommended over Prolia. I ache from arthritis, and have some osteoporosis at age 83 and this new aching is far worse.
I am 44 and have taken 2 prolia injections for severe osteopenia and bone fx. Hx of breast cancer. I now have osteonecrosis of the jaw caused by Prolia. Teeth literally have just fallen out. Oral surgeons don't really know what to do because it takes at least a year before Prolia gets out of system. The whole right side sinus cavity is practically gone. They want to do bone grafts but no one will touch me until it does get out of my body. Evidently, the Prolia is blocking the red blood cells from getting to my jaw area. I still have no idea how all of this will work out. I'm a nurse for a physician who says the studies don't really even show any bone density improvement. DO NOT take this drug!
Apparently, no one really knows what percentage of people on Prolia are having these severe negative side effects. What percentage is acceptable? It does appear that it is too high a percentage and unfortunately it may be only through a class action law suite that the answers will be found. If you are having these terrible side effects then that is one person too many.
I've contacted Amgen, I've also been lied to by these people about the side effects I was suffering and made them concede to them as being "possible but highly unlikely" even though I had fair warning from a Medical Professional And a Written Document Specifically Stating That It Was A Side Effect. Don't be fooled by the people who won't look you in the eye when discussing any side effect you may notice. Bother them incessantly via this link's contact info and you Will be successful: (amgen.com/media/overview.html). I told them my next calls would be to the local and Natl media outlets if I wasn't called back and/or taken seriously. My particular issue was serious confusion, days at a time. I've multiple posts here since my injection in July of '14, perhaps looking back through them may be of help to you personally. I sincerely hope you are better soon and blessed incredibly for your suffering.... ~Benny

My wife has been suffering from the following symptoms for 20 months. Severe hives, itching and dry skin, swollen face, aches and pains, eye floaters and chills. These started after her 3rd Prolia shot. She had no idea what was causing it and went to the er several times, an allergist and various doctors. When getting her last Prolia shot last month she read the side effects and realized that everything she has suffered with for 20 months is on the side effect list. We are considering a hyperbaric treatment to quickly remove the Prolia poison from her system. It is amazing how quickly doctors prescribe these poisonous unproven drugs. We are not guinea pigs.
Have you reported your issues? Might have to get lawyers
involved. Of course, hard to get a Dr. to admit that it is/was the problem.
They told me I was having a stroke! Not!
Perhaps it's time to leave email's with the National Osteoporosis Foundation? It couldn't hurt to let them know your Prolia experience.
I had prolia injection on Nov 21 2014. I have had 3 uti' s. I have pain in my arm, nausea and extreme tiredness. I have stomach pain, headaches and upper respiratory issues. I have not felt well since this INJECTION.
I had my first shot of Prolia 6 months ago and am due for my 2nd next week. I will not be going for that shot. I have had Pain and burning in my legs and have been to every doctor to find out what is going on. I now know it is from the Prolia. Also pain in both arms, tingling in my legs arms and face. and last frequent urination which has turned into bladder leakage. I will take my chances and not have another shot and hopefully return to normal.
Joyce B., I feel your pain. I had only one injection in June of last year. Not only have 7 of my teeth rotted out but I've also lost the vast majority of my left jaw bone. There was indeed bone growth as promised, unfortunately it was withing my spinal canal in the form of spurs as well as closing, almost entirely strangulating the nerve roots from where they exit. I'm now only 47 years of age and still suffer from swelling and pain at the injection site. My bones continue to crumble rapidly, more rapidly than before the Prolia toxins were introduced into my system. From approximately July through October of last year, I checked in and reported my degradation to the group as I simply was dumbfounded by this incredible mistake I made in accepting the injection to begin with. My spine from T-2 through C-4 is now in 13 separate pieces. C-2 through C-7 are in what my Dr's call "Severe" condition and failing. I've lost feeling in more places than modesty permits me to mention however, the left side of my face is only the least of them.
At my current rate of degeneration, I know I've not very much longer to suffer before the involuntary functions of both my respiratory and cardiac systems are shut down by this incredulous and tragic turn of events, as the formidial regions of the vertebrae continue to diminish in diameter. I've recently began loosing my sight due to a new Occipital Neuralgia that only one year ago wasn't present nor even foreseeable.
Please, continue your work in spreading the word about Prolia, as long as you can. I beg that people would know of this forum prior to taking the injection... Had I known half the issues I've read here, surely I'd never become an Amgen victim.
Be well, be safe and be blessed always and in great abundance...
Sincerely and Respectfully yours,
Benjamin Bennett, Th.D
(Also, forgive me my misspellings)
