Prolia Side Effects (Page 44) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
I had the poison injection Aug. of 15. I have experience mega hair loss & am continuing to have it. I am saving all of the hair to take to the Dr. when I go again to show him. The Drs. have no clue what this drug does to you. It is a cancer drug (Hince chemo) used to treat prostate & breast cancer. You can go to the National Cancer Institute's website & look up cancer drugs & There It Is!! I printed it out & took it to my doc to read. Then & only then did he pay attention to my hair loss, thigh pain, hip pain, pain going down the back of my legs, legs & muscles so weak, I can barely put one foot in front of the other. It has been 5 months & 1 week since the one & only injection. I don't believe for one minute that the side effects will be gone at the magic 6 month mark. I have been searching for a class action lawsuit firm that is going after prolia ( amgen) Hopefully, I will find one. I just want this poison to get out of my system!!!
Anne~thank you for that tidbit of info. The attorneys I am finding for class action suits are only interested in the broken femur with no pressure being put on it and for those that have had hospital bills. With more and more of us every day, they will eventually figure out they have a gold mine with Prolia. Probably would be interested in Rrd as she had cellulitis and had to have surgery for it. I sincerely hope and pray you do get better soon. You still have three weeks to go but you should be doing much better in the 5th month and you are not. Apparently, you are going to be the one that has to go through all 11 months of Prolia before it finally leaves. I am so very sorry for you as I know exactly what you are going through. Has the insomnia lessened at all? Hugs~Pood
not one bit and I am on the maximum dose of Restoril along with small amount of Xanax, Melatonin and Trazadone. Still with all that poisonous stuff in my body, only getting 5-6 hrs. per night and wake feeling tired, drunk and my mind is constantly whirring. I have now in the last 2 weeks started to become weepy since being put on the Trazadone and it makes me feel drunk the minute I take it. I am at my wit's end!!
Victoria~the other 'stuff' in those capsules are supposed to help build or maintain cartilage. It's been a dubious claim for years with all kinds of different products coming out but end result was it never helped the cartilage at all. That is what happens to those of us that have osteoarthritis. Cartilage disappears so we have to get new joints.
Now you know what's all in there. Be well~Pood
I have had 2 shots of Prolia, I have been experiencing many side effects, bloating, constipation, by bones and muscles aching so bad, Bad indigestion, stomach aches, eczema, always was able to wear perfume my whole life now I can't go near it. I have insomnia, my ankles swelling, my raynauds syndrome even worse. When I told my Dr. I had these symptoms, she told me not from shot go to my GP, my GP said he would never have given me this shot. I have taken the pills and had horrible side effects so they said shot would be better. I have had such bad quality of life for 2 years and I am DONE.. I am 63 years old and have always been active, everything is a struggle. Not until I started reading from group chats did I realize I am not alone and it stems back to these medications. Thank you for listening
Hi,
I have been following all of these posts.
They are very informative and alarming for anyone being prescribed or already have taken this drug. It has some many risks and not many benefits from what I have read.
The two people I know whose friend and mother took the injection were pretty sick and continue to be sick.
In December, Prolia was recommended for me to slow down my progression of osteoporosis. It had returned after being off of Fosamax for two + years.
After reading and researching I have opted not to take this awful drug.
I was on Fosamax for 5 years and had great success, it slowed the bone loss.
I stopped it for two years and I began to lose bone.
What can you tell me about the drug holiday and going back onto a medicine like this.
I am seeing another endocronologist in two weeks, any info would be greatly appreciated and thank you.
Mom~Generally MDs consider a year to be a 'drug holiday'. You really should discuss this and say I want my Fosamax back. It worked for you and you tolerated it well. Just be aware that Merck has been in a constant class action law suit with this drug and continues to be. It does seem less dangerous than Prolia tho.
Merck is in a class-action suit over the Fosamx?
Wow!!
Thanks for the comment...
I have had three doses of Prolia now and no side effects. My doctor is an Endo that only treats Osteoporosis. He has written books on it. My bone density has increased a lot. I previously had yearly injections of Reclast. That didn't really do anything. I'm happy with Prolia so far. I feel bad for you that have had terrible side effects.
Anne~When Prolia is given as a chemo drug, the patient receives one injection of Prolia per month, not like every 6 months like we do. That still does not deny the fact that it is basically a chemo drug. Pood
Poodle, how long before it leaves our bodies, I started taking Magnesium as you suggested, I hope that helps
Perfect that is what I got, I just want this to be over and never again, between the pills and shots, two years of my life were basically taken away
Sheri~it makes zero difference whether you had Prolia or not, fact is bones need some Magnesium to build on just like they need Calcium. You can take some every day or take 500 mg 3/4 times/week. One has to be careful with Magnesium as it can be a laxative so try different kinds and brands. You may want to skip all the bone building meds on the market now and do it as it should be done with calcium, Vitamin D, magnesium and light weight bearing exercises - this can be just walking or swimming in a nice warm pool if you live farther to the North. Be well~Pood
You are so correct Sheri. MDs do not want to admit it is their beloved Prolia that causes all the harm even tho most all of the side effects are listed on Amgen's website and in every TV commercial. What do they miss? Acute insomnia and hair falling out like a chemo patient. It would be a great idea to copy all of Amgen's material on the side effects of Prolia and stick it under your Doctor's nose and say: READ AND LEARN SO YOU DO NO MORE HARM. That is their oath -- DO NO HARM! Remind him/her when they took their oath those are the words they said and you want to know if s/he is living up to that oath. Also many of them were paid money for Rx'ing Prolia -- Dollars for Doctors. First thing they need to understand is Prolia reduces the immune system so it cannot do it's job properly and that is the reason for all the different infections. Just say it binds to RANKL. L is the most important letter in that meaning your immune system. Then ask them how Prolia can go 'poof' in six months since it is carbon based and so are we. Everything living or has lived on this planet is carbon based which means everything has a half life. There is no end to a half life. It goes on into infinity. Be well~Pood
Sheri - double up on that Calcium of yours -- 1200 and 1200. I was told to even take one with a glass of OJ. He said that was sufficient food for it. Then the other later for breakfast and another for lunch and another with supper. That way you can use your 600's but do them 4 times a day. There is one thing Prolia LOVES and that is calcium and if it cannot get enough of it from supplements it will start robbing it from our muscles and that's the cause of the muscle cramps so then we have to take Magnesium to get rid of them. Prevention is always better than having to deal with a problem when it strikes generally at a most inopportune time. Be well~Pood
Someone st my gyn office tried to get me to take this after my osteoporosis diagnosis. I said NO. When I saw my doc he said it want him. He has referred me to a rheumatologist. I think all the BD drugs are dangerous. I won't take them. I want more testing to see what is causing it. I have early meno and two health conditions which contribute. I'm disgusted someone at that office tried to discuss prolia with me before I even saw my doc and get me to see another doc there who treats osteoporosis. How about figuring out what is causing it and discussing other options besides these poisons???? He said it wasn't him but she said he wNted me to see this other doc prolia is meant for cancer patients and bone metastasis not due osteoporosis. It depresses your immune system and has terrible side effects including death. Just look up prolia deaths. There are 60 reported deaths at askapatient alone. Don't take this drug!!!
Victoria~ I've been taking mine that way too but the Dr. just suggested that I change it to 4 times a day. That really doesn't work well for me as I never eat lunch so maybe another glass of OJ for lunch too although mine is not OJ - it's Pom-Cranberry. I may continue on with my 1200's 2 times a day. Back when I had a lot of side effects I would have done as told but now I m/l lead my own life. Bad on me!! He's the only MD that told me the truth about Prolia. I really didn't believe it would be that bad but it was and far worse than we can accurately describe. He also wants me to take Merck's and I flat refuse. He maintains I will have zero problem if I sit up straight for 1/2 hour after taking it. I don't want to take a chance. I'm asking for my Salmon Calcitonin back. I would rather have something that works slowly but well and I have zero side effects. I've had enough of osteoporosis meds to last me a lifetime. Honestly, 4 breaks in my hip and one in my back were zero compared to Prolia. Breaks heal in 6 weeks. Prolia does not go away in 6 weeks. Pood
Oh my Goodness Canadian~you are not well yet either? This is now 4 we have that still have nasty side effects from Prolia after it has been stopped. If anyone has a clue as how to help Canadian, I sure would appreciate it. She has had a worse than usual time with Prolia. My heart breaks for her. Pood
To Whomever recommended ask a patient. Excellent reading and a couple of them have been here too. I can recognize the diseases. Thanks a lot!! Pood
I agree as much as chemo was bad this shot is so much worse, how bad is that. My friend at work just went thru treatments and her nails fell off, we got to talking and a light flash went off, when I realized my nails had to be from the shot.
