Prolia Side Effects (Page 143)

Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Re: Sal (# 2840) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks Sal. As far as muscle and joint pain, mine is now manageable. My mouth....a different story. The closest comparison would be thinning of the skin. In my case, the roof of my mouth. Eating a crisp cookie, a piece of toast is very uncomfortable. Also the taste buds are very irritated with a lot of different foods. Yoghurt, milk, ice cream are the most soothing. The oral specialist I see in Toronto has tried innumerable things but so far no real relief. The closest is daily alpha lipoid acid which I take 3 months on, a month off. When I stopped the end of May my mouth got worse so now that I’m back on....we’ll see! Maybe it was just a fluke? Certainly sorry to hear all your own problems. I’ll check out the bone site.

Re: Judy (# 2841) Expand Referenced Message

I am so sorry for your troubles and I wish I had a magic wand. One of my many pain syndromes is Burning Mouth Syndrome, so I have empathy. Ice cream is my best friend, but it is bad for my weight, so I eat chocolate covered frozen bananas.

Good health to you.

Re: Sal (# 2840) Expand Referenced Message

I also just went through hell when my doctor prescribed thyroid meds for me and I was border line need. I had a really bad reaction and stopped that also. I have all disfigured fingers now and growths on most of them. I refuse to do this reclase inversion that a new doctor is telling me I need. I also took fosamack for 2 years before the pain in my joints had the doctor stop the medicine.

Re: Judy (# 2838) Expand Referenced Message

It is horrible that this drug does cost us in time, money, pain, and endless frustration. However one of the side effects I have battled with this drug is loss of self esteem. When your hair starts falling out, and your mouth breaks out in sores and your bones hurt, it is hard to be who you are. When your doctor denies the relation to Prolia, you start to feel like a hypochondriac and a whining old person. When you battle fatigue just to minimally function, eventually the person you see in the mirror is not one you want to be. I have not had a shot for a year and have some consistently good days now... I am starting to remember who I used to be.

Re: Karen Wadman (# 2839) Expand Referenced Message

I looked up reclass insertion and could not find information on it. What is it. The only thing I found is another infusion of a drug Reclast which is also bad. Please advise.

Reclast is just more of the same , posing the same dangers as Prolia and all the others.

I can tell you that I will never take another one of these drugs. My next blood work and DEXA are due in January, frankly I don’t expect a good report , but I refuse to ever take these drugs again.
My mother had a bad experience decades ago and refused to take it again; she is going strong at
91.

Re: Dawn (# 2845) Expand Referenced Message

That is the drug, Reclast. I keep going by sounds like as I have not received any written orders yet to have this treatment. I have decided that it is a bad idea. One doctor advised it a new one that I just started to go to when I had the thyroid problem and my last doctor who had put me on Prolia. She did not recommend this Reclast.

Re: Karen Wadman (# 2847) Expand Referenced Message

The side effects are the same as the ones we already know. The fact that this is given by IV means it goes directly into the system, and lasts for 12 months is even more worrisome than Prolia.

I wish you the best of health.

BTW. I forgot to mention another gentle exercise for Osteoporosis, I just started it.
Miranda Esmonde White if you are in the U.S. she is on PBS frequently, but if t
you are Canadian, lucky you because that is where she is based. Anyway, her basic level program has a gentle workout for Osteo.

Keep posting

Re: Lynne (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

I have had two prolia shots and after the misery I have experienced I am done. Pain, horrific nausea, hot flashes, fatigue. Had I done more research I would have never started with this med.

Re: Karen Wadman (# 2847) Expand Referenced Message

I developed a serious thyroid disorder following the one and only Prolia injection I received. It was first diagnosed as simple hyperthyroidism but later on as Graves disease with an extremely serious ophtalmopathy. My eyes started to bulge and I almost lost my vision due to a compression on the optical nerve. It is a miracle I recovered some of the lost vision. Drs here did not want to diagnose it as a complication secondary to the Prolia injection and never diagnosed the optical nerve compression because every tine I mentioned Prolia they acted defensively. It took for me to travel overseas where several of my family members are MD’s for me to be properly diagnosed and treated... I was hospitalized abroad and suffered horribly away from my husband and children for two and a half months... Prolia doesn’t just leave your body a year later.... it alters your immune system in often irreversible ways. Im the living proof that this us an extremely dangerous drug....

5 months ago I received first injection. 2 wks later my colon “locked down”. Severe constipation. Nothing found via scopes that would cause it. Not resolving!

I had a rash that has reappeared twice. The rash lasted for two months! Then Tymlos was prescribed and I had an awful intense rash required an ER visit for IV steroids on top of the prednisone. I’m not going to do anything besides vitamin D and calcium plus walking!

Re: Jude (# 2853) Expand Referenced Message

If it was two weeks after the Prolia and there was nothing else new in your system, it seems logical that the Prolia is the cause. However, logic does not seem to be prevalent with the doctors who blindly deny a Prolia connection to the side effects. Hope you can find a long term solution to your problem.. it is hard to deal with..

Well said, Jude! They just blindly follow. This is reminiscent of all the Dr’s who blindly believed the drug companies claim that the pain drugs were not addictive.

Hi. I had early menopause and so, have developed osteoporosis. At age 40, I was told I would never have to worry about my bones. Ha! Shows what docs know. Anyway, I take quite a few supplements, including strontium. Strontium is considered safe and therapeutic for bone weakening. At one time, I used a weight best which has proven to help with strengthening the bones of the spine. I have not had a bone scan in 6 years. I don't know my status but I don't hurt. Docs are always surprised that I don't have back pain. I feel so upset that so many people are pushed into taking this medicine/poison. I feel sad for those of you who are struggling. Please do all women a favor and send your report on the effects of this stuff to the FDA. They are the only ones who can put a stop to this insanity!

Prolia is a horrible and deadly drug. It should be taken off the market, but so much money being made, drug companies do not care nor the FDA. It was a terrible drug for me and has changed my life, and not sure I will ever be the same. There are more negative reviews than positive ones. I label it as POISON!

Re: Cln (# 2857) Expand Referenced Message

This drug is poison, as are all the others. There are natural remedies such as a more alkaline diet and exercise. Since there is so much money to be made, it is not about to be taken off the market; nor do we have any recourse due to our current “buyer beware” environment. There was a class action suit against the maker of Fosamax, it went to the Supreme Court, and guess what: they ruled in favor of the drug company. We must educate ourselves and be our own advocates, this is crucial. As someone who learned the hard way (because I allowed myself to be scared into taking this poison): be armed with as much information as possible. There are some informative sites to get you started: Save Our Bones, and Better Bones Blog. Both sites present up to date information, and information regarding foods that are bone sparing; plus information about exercises that can strengthen bones. Good health to you.

Re: Gloria (# 2858) Expand Referenced Message

The doctors are making a fortune off of this drug and care little what effects it may have on our health. I just had another doctor try to put me on Reclass and the doctor was setting this appointment up with out ever discussing this treatment with me. I went for the bone scan test and the next thing the phone is ringing telling me to be at the hospital on this date for this treatment. Everything cancelled including the new doctor. My own doctor read the results of the bone scan and thought more vitamin D was the answer. That same doctor told me once before that vitamins were not any good! They all care little and know less!
