Prolia Side Effects (Page 137)

Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Yes...it may not be his or her direct intention to cause harm....However, they prescribe medication they don't even have a clue how they work in our bodies....and I think this is criminal! Considering that medication that is wrongly prescribed can kill you--ie. without taking into consideration the medical history of their patients--their prescribing whatever without knowing what it is, would be like policemen pulling the trigger not knowing what their guns do...

I also do not think my doctor meant any harm and truly did not think that side effects would occur-he assured me that none of his patients experienced side effects. HOWEVER, when I reported my first side effect (hair loss 2 weeks after the shot), he denied Prolia as the origin of the problem. When I reported bone pain, Prolia was also rejected as a cause. Now with the parathyroid problem and lower jaw pain, he is still not considering Prolia as a potential cause. So, while I do not feel that prescribing the shot was done with any negligence or harmful intent, I am not comfortable with the ongoing denial of the potential of Prolia to cause harm. I would really like a link to this site to be given to all patients BEFORE the shot occurs. We are not scientific proof, but there are enough of us to at least open the door to validation.

This is similar to the Opiod epidemic, Dr.s are blindly accepting what Big Pharma tells them. Just like with opioids, there doesn’t seem to be prescribing criteria, or limiting prescribing to certain specialities. But how to accomplish that ??

Re: Lizzie (# 2722) Expand Referenced Message

They don't want to admit that they have given you something so harmful. Even Amgen Australia admits that these can be side effects but their comment that they are very rare defies explanation in light of the fact that there are 1000s of patients complaining of the same problems that are being experienced with Prolia

That is so awful! At least with the hair loss there are wigs and hope it will grow back. Teeth do not grow back and trying to fix them is cost prohibitive. Perhaps AMGEN execs would volunteer to have some teeth removed and shave their heads to determine the ultimate cost of their medication. Self esteem has no price tag..it is not vanity.. you can tell yourself its OK I am the same person, but if your mirror contradicts that statement on a daily basis, it is a struggle to maintain your inner confidence.

Thanks, Lizzie. I guess I was so hoping that I would have a permanent tooth by now. We are leaving in a few days for a week in the Dominican Republic at a 5-star resort which we have never done before. I have great difficulty eating with the “flipper” in, and this resort has 9 restaurants to choose from. This will probably be our last holiday as my husband has been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s and it is getting increasingly difficult for him(and me!) to deal with traveling and adjusting to a new surrounding. All I can hope for is that when we get back and I see the oral surgeon she will give the OK for the crown! So sorry about your hair. I too had some hair loss due to an antidepressant but my hair stylist had me use a product from Italy that helped quite a bit. I also stopped the Wellbutrin and now things seem to have improved. I have also discovered that as we age, drugs that we had no problems with, start giving us side effects. It would be most encouraging if Amgen would listen to us and alert doctors that there, in fact, are real issues with a large number of people who have used prolia and only those who cannot tolerate other drugs, consider using it. And I mean CONSIDER. When I spoke to them I was told that they had had no one ever complain about any side effects! Of course, I’m in Canada and apparently we’re very polite people!!!

But why don’t the Docs listen to us instead of just accepting Amgen’s word about side effects? Within 3 months of my first shot, I developed HypoCalcemia and Hyperparathyroidism. I saw three Docs who blew me off, despite the fact that HypoCalcemia is actually listed as a side effect, even in their magazine ads !!!!

It took going to another state to my previous physician who immediately order blood tests and I was severely deficient in calcium, a potentially life threatening situation. This Dr. is a Physiatrist and a Yoga master. If anyone is interested, he has an ongoing study, with good results of treating Osteoporosis with Yoga. His name is Dr. Loren Fishman in New York City.

Thanks, Lizzie. It’s going to be a challenge considering my husband's situation, but maybe I’ll be surprised! Sure beats the cold weather we’ve been having here!

Re: Judy (# 2726) Expand Referenced Message

I'm sure Amgen bend the truth which is a sad thing to have to say. H in Australia it's the same story. They will admit to side effects but say that they are very rare...tell me about it.

Re: Marion (# 2704) Expand Referenced Message

So now that the patent on Prolia is about to expire, Amgen is coming out with a new drug previously denied approval by the FDA due to dangerous cardiovascular side effects. It seems that they tweaked their warning label, and now they stand to be approved??.

They will stop at nothing.

Re: Judy (# 2733) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, it is a new drug. !

This is Osteoporosis Awareness month ( organized by Big Pharma ) with informational advertising designed to scare people into taking these poisonous drugs. They have no conscious, it is all about profits over people.

Check out the website Save Our Bones. It is informative about dietary ways to save our bones, plus the latest studies; and, the latest information about Big Pharma.

Re: Faith (# 15) Expand Referenced Message

I had my injection on March 7, 2019 and have been ill ever since. I broke out in welts that did and did not look like welts all over my limbs and back and buttocks. My face and ears was the worst hit with what is called angioedema. I had a horrible adverse reaction and have been in and out of emerg and urgent care many times. I have taken prednisone to help me through the acute phase but every week I have something new that happened. I do have osteoporosis and considered moderate in nature and would never have taken this killer drug or any of them if I had known. I am so angry that I cannot explain but mostly at myself that I did not do my homework and trusted my specialist. I will be seeing a lawyer as now have done a lot of reading and there are no guarantees that there will not be lasting side effects. I have the stomach issue, pain in my legs and so much more. If you decide to use this crap then do your homework first and do not trust what you are told by the doctor. Oh yes I am an ex- nurse and live in Canada.

Re: Marginot (# 2734) Expand Referenced Message

I am not sure if I can help from living in Canada but with my horrific experience I would join a class action at a drop of a hat just to put the pharma company in the news etc. They did not even do their clinical trials properly. The other guilty parties are the FDA and Health Canada for approving this poison for this type of use.

Re: Dawn (# 2737) Expand Referenced Message

So sorry this happened to you. I too have side effects that seem to be "lasting" and like you , I was put on Prolia without real need. But I had FOUR Injections because I too did not do my homework. I had no clue that with each injection, the effects were building and building. It was not till after the fourth that I became positive my mouth condition and the strange swirling inside my body were related to Prolia, so I simply went off it. I did not return to my oncologist (I am cancer free but was being monitored) The reason they gave me prolia in the first place was to "protect my bones" while i was taking estrogen blocker. I took myself off the estrogen blocker too and am using products like I-Carbinol 3 and DIM. If you got such adverse effects with only one injection, that is incredible. I think eventually you will be ok. Maybe I will have to wait years to get rid of the effect of four injections. They lie when they say Prolia will leave your body. I can feel it swirling inside me! I have no lining on my lips and I cannot describe how disgusting it feels every day inside my mouth, so I wear an ugly mouth guard at my house. This allows my mouth to stay open so that I dont have to deal with the gross sensation inside my mouth. If you ever find a lawyer who will even HEAR our cases and try to help us, please let me know!!

Re: Dawn (# 2737) Expand Referenced Message

I’m so sorry to hear of your problems. Your problems sound similar to mine except that the worst for me has been the sores and discomfort in my mouth. It has been about 4 years ago that I had the 1st of 3 injections. It wasn’t until a friend suggested it could be prolia as the doctor( an obgyn!.) had said she’d never had a patient experience any side effects! I eventually lost a front tooth due to infection. If you read the warnings( I didn’t nor did my Dr point out) . It took 2 more years of dental bone grafts and an implant that I finally have a tooth. All I can say is stop prolia now and tell all your friends, neighbours, etc to avoid it like the plague. I ,too , am Canadian and have tried to contact journalists to investigate others with side effects. Good luck.
