Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Thanks. Actually it is the ligaments in my hands . I have to have surgery to fuse the bones together. Now the dr. says it is happening in my ankles. I had no trouble with any of this until they gave me the shot of Prolia. The doctors will not discuss it with me.

My dental surgeon said Prolia never totally leaves. It had been 18 months for me and I am finally loosing a little weight that I gained. I lost 8 teeth and still in the middle of implants and also had emergency hernia surgery two weeks after my first and only Prolia injection. Never again.

Linda~in a way that is true but one has to consider the half-life of Prolia which I believe is 16 days so in 16 days 1/2 of the Prolia leaves your body, then in 16 more days 1/2 of the remaining half leaves and then another 16 days another half of that half until there is only a tiny little molecule left in your body and cannot bother you. The same would be true of any aspirin you took as a child or maybe a young adult. Anything that is alive or has been made from what is alive on our Earth has half lives. That is how they are able to estimate the age of a certain fabric in 200BC. The Egyptians wrote on a paper product that was made from this Earth too and we can pretty accurately know about when it was made by carbon dating. Hopefully, this solves the mystery of half lives for everyone concerned. Does that wheat you ate 30-40 years ago bother you now, or oats? They were grown on our Earth and have half-lives too. The reason I included aspirin is because it is made from a tree substance. Take a pencil or pen and figure for yourself how much Prolia is remaining in your body. Just because the Prolia is gone does not mean in the least that it's side effects are also gone. It can and does cause major damage to the human body up to and including death. Be well my friend~Pood

Net~what do the Doctors say caused that damage to your body that has to be fused back? Remember~Once something is fused, it CANNOT bend so be very careful in what you are having fused together. This is the exact same reason I refuse to have my back fused. I would never be able to bend over again in my life. I'm taking an alternate route and having the nerves burned and it will last up to 7-8 years and then will have to have it done again. Be well~Pood

Judy~remember - there are 5 tendons involved in that tear. The one that cannot be stitched would be replaced by another tendon and the remaining 4 would get stitched up. There is always a way to fix these things if one gets the correct orthopedic specialists. Maybe you would require 2 replacements and the remaining three get stitched up or perhaps you would require 3 replacements and two get stitched up.

I well know how the system works in Canada. My best friend lost his wife to cancer and the Docs did nothing!! He has now dedicated his life to helping people with cancer. We have alternative means that the Docs don't really know much about but it has been proven over and over again to be 100% successful. Pood

Net~it varies by person and toleration to the drug and how great of care you get. I had my rheumatologist who works with an immunologist working on me so I was well after the 6 months were up. That does not mean that I am totally symptom free since I am still experiencing the hair loss and a certain muscle in my neck near the injection site is still sore if I don't take my pain meds. After one stops the Prolia the bones return immediately to the pre-Prolia state and my spine is a 'mess'. That's the official diagnosis of my orthopedic specialist. It only reacts badly when I want to lie down in bed and that does hurt! They are all jammed together now with no cushion between them. This is not Prolia related. It's from osteoarthritis I have had since I was a teen. Be well~Pood

In January, 2017, I asked if anyone else on Prolia was experiencing hair loss. My second and last shot was September 30, 2016 and I am still losing more hair than normal. I decided I was not getting any additional shots and I supplementing my diet with magnesium, K2, Vitamin D3, Calcium, Silica for my bones and trying different things to encourage hair growth and thickening. Also, in April I suffered from a very infected gallbladder with only a couple of short incidents of abdominal pain. The last one sent me to the doctor because it lasted more than 24 hours. No previous problems like this with gallbladder. Wondering if the acute infection was a side effect of Prolia as serious infections is one of the less common side effects. I was immediately admitted to hospital and gallbladder was removed due to severe infection.

I have also experienced hair loss but started that before Prolia because of thyroid problems. I had Radio Active Iodine and now on thyroid meds. Still loosing hair but not sure why. I am using Nioxin shampoo and it helps a little.

Linda you are not getting enough of the thyroid hormone T3 which is the active hormone of the T1,T2,T3,T4, and calcitonin which our thyroid normally produces

Don't think my thyroid is doing well right now. Do not feel right and go back for blood work in October. I was good in April but something has changed. It is very hard to get it just right and keep it right. My drug store changed drug companies and I started changing so had them order from the old company. My doctor said to make sure I take from the same company and thought that was strange but think he was right. Maybe I will improve. Thanks for the advice.

Lois~Did you read what I posted about side effects from Prolia? There are various infections and that is due to the fact that Prolia diminishes some of our immune system so it's probably the reason you got that infection. Gall bladders are best out if you have a great surgeon. I had mine done in the morning and wanted dismissed from the hospital. He told me I would be dismissed if I could keep my lunch down. I did so I went back to work and had to work until midnight that night as we were having a yearly budget meeting of the board. I could not eat cashews for a few years and that was the only problem I had with that surgery. Some people have a lot of food problems after this surgery. I sincerely hope you do equally as well as I did!! Be well~Pood

Poodle, I'm hopping angry with the runaround I'm getting with the medical system at the moment. It was my physiotherapist who also told me that I had had a previous shoulder dislocation and that could also be what was causing me so much pain. I have a friend who knows a retired orthopedic surgeon who kindly offered to look at my MRI. After reviewing it I was told that surgery could possibly help me. I was given the names of 2 top Drs to get a referral to. I gave the info to my GP who just contacted me today to say she was contacting the ortho Dr I had previously seen for all of 5 minutes, to get a referral. I have now contacted the patient advocate at the hospital where I saw him to see if they can help me. Most discouraging. I just had a front tooth pulled last week due to Prolia....it goes on and on! On top of all of this my husband had an episode of shaking and the same hospital says he now has epilepsy and the only test he had was a catscan which showed nothing! I'm learning quickly to navigate a very frustrating system to get the help that we need and deserve. Fortunately I have a patient advocate who believes we require some answers. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that 3 inj's. of a drug could cause me so many problems. My oral surgeon on hearing I had been on Prolia was incensed as she said it was a terrible drug which caused most of my oral problems. Also shocked that it was a gynecologist that prescribed it! If only I had talked to her 2 years ago! I know I'm ranting but I'm so frustrated with trying to get some help. Poodle, you have given me some hope that possibly there is something that can give me some relief. I don't want to depend on painkillers the rest of my life. I still have a lot of living to do!

Prolia and Hair Loss~saw palmetto for women, B vitamins and also add vitamin A to the mix. It should stop the shedding and will make your hair shine and healthy again. It took me a long time searching on the net for that specific combination and I finally found it. Be well~Pood

For hair loss I found 10,000 mcg of Biotin daily to be helpful.

It wasn't effective immediately, it took some time, but my hair has stopped falling out.

I am using Nioxin shampoo for hair loss and it seems to be helping.
I did submit a complaint to FDA against Prolia and also talked to Amgen drug company and told them all of my problem. They sent me a lot of information saying how wonderful it was and had no reports of teeth, hernia problems or joint pain. I know that is not true. They also said they couldn't help me with my dental implants. I knew it would be a waste of time but tried.
