Prolia Side Effects (Page 10)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
Hi Cathy,
Sure the others who,ve had prolia can give you advice, lve not had it, but was checking out site for a friend who had it at 82 following breaking her arm, and like many on here suffered very badly with pain and other things, she refused the second one, so now just over a year since lst shot and some of symptoms easing, she since had the spinal injection for her osteo pagett,s probs, helped. l can understand how you feel about encouraging your mum and now feeling guilty, think that happens to many of us in one way or another, l thought my mum was doing the right thing having major surgery on the advice of consultant, who she trusted so much, l was a bit iffy as she,d been having infections
supposedly treated, but they returned severely from straight after op, but we all to some extent, put trust in the medical profession, and dont always think or expect to research things on the net, shouldnt have to really, but seems we do more now. Anyway, sure youll get advice on alternative,s, good wishes to your mum and yourself.
Rat Lady, wow, way to go, wish l could join you, go for it and good luck.
Hi Rat Lady: I watched a program (Dr.Oz) on what the drug companies don't want you to know the cures of Natural meds. One of the products he mentioned for Ostio was Strontium Support which you can purchase at Health Stores. I am taking it and a friend has been taking it for a year and her bone scans have been much better. My next injection is August 13th but I will not be getting it. I am too sore, acid reflux, mouth sores, swollen hands and feet ,fluid in my ears and my last shot was Feb 13/12. Scarborough, Ont. Happy motoring. Irene
Irene, I also was recommended to take Strontium. As I had mentioned before, I strongly urge all to get with a first class Pharmacist you trust. Also, one that does compunding. Although he is a Pharmacist, he is so against drugs in the body and truly believes in Alternative medicine. He has me drug free, and so thankful I read all about Prolia before taking the injection. To replace the Fosamax I was on for about 4 years, he has me on Calcium w/Magnesiam. I take this twice a day. Also, he put me on Strontium. Just remember, do not take this with a milk product. Praying when I get my next Bone Density, I see improvement. Good luck to all, and I am praying for all that have taken the Prolia shot.
I too had my injection on your date and due for another on the 13th of August....needless to say not having another one!!!!!! please think twice before you have this lethal stuff...i can hardly walk now...it has cost me my mobility big time.....Longlegs
Hi Irene and Hi Dee
Thanks for the tip ref the Strontium - I will do some research. I am so impressed with all of the info I have found on this forum - there is certainly lots of food for thought ref Prolia. I am waiting for a reply from my Doc but I wrote him a note and said "no" to Prolia. I found some info on line ref a "Wellness belt" and there is a claim that it can reverse osteoporosis. I am checking this out -- may try to make one for my own use and see if it will help. Meanwhile - many thanks for all of the guidance - all is appreciated. (And in the past I have tried Fosomax, Evista and Actonel - terrible reactions - and Calcitonin helped....but after 2 years I started to get side effects...and with the current warnings...I chose to quit.)
I will research Strontium!
The Rat Lady
I just had a Prolia shot on August 2, 2012. The next day and for one week, I had a migraine headache that could not be treated with my migraine prescription medication. I expressed my concern to my husband, wondering if this headache was caused by the Prolia as my migraine medication didn't work. I also had pain especially in my left upper thigh, and my dormant heel spur pain was coming back, and I had jaw throbbing, like a toothache on my right upper jaw, then my left upper jaw. I thought that maybe it was my imagination....until two days ago I noticed my left inner wrist bone PROTRUDING through my skin....not a break in my skin but visually protruding. When I felt it, it is a BONE! I called my gynocologist's office and was told that it was NOT due to Prolia. I have an appointment with him today, as I am not documenting all of my symptoms. Until I read the brochure and searched the internet, I thought my ailments may have been attributed to random causes....until the bone came through my wrist. I believe 100% that this is due to the Prolia. I also have an appointment with my internest and plan on taking blood tests, possibly every couple of months. My advice to everyone out there is to document, document, document....and take pictures, and print them with dates on them. I'm thinking positive, but I am also protecting myself from day one, should there be a class action suit or should i become incapacitated.....I would NEVER advise anyone to take Prolia....
I meant that i am NOW documenting all of my symtpoms.
Have you had any adverse reactions to any other Osteoporosis meds too?
I never tried anything else. I had a bone scan done, and gyn told me I had osteoporosis and that i should get the twice yearly shot. I just went to see him about my bone and he said that he never came across anyone with a bone growth...heard of growths in the mouth. He told the nurse to report it to the Prolia rep and I took an xray a few hours ago. He did tell me that my body aches and flu like symptoms Could be from the Prolia...but doesnt think that this bone growth is.....he seemed shocked that it practically grew over night. Also, I asked him about the dosage I got and he said that EVERYONE's dosage is the same!!! I couldnt believe, that me a 115 pounder would get the same dose as, say, even a 15o pounder! That already just sounds so wrong!
Hi . I agree that the dose should be according to weight. I too was 115 until I got the shot and now I am10 pounds heavier. You should expect weight gain as we all have gained . Hope the bone growth is not serious. I didn't get my 2nd shot on Aug. 13, enough problems with the first one. Guess you didn't read this comment report section, (like the rest of us or elese we wouldn't have taken it). Hope you feel better.
It just made me think about the difference in weights and the same dosage is for everyone. I received the info after 2 weeks of getting the injection. Nothing was told to me by the doc giving it to me. No osteo etc - have these bone growths in the mouth, and was told it wasn't Prolia - but it happened about two weeks after and its 15 months now. Still have the cold and hot spells each day - the pains in all the bones - and will be geting the results from the two day Persantine test for my heart, my left leg is numb and have hardly a pulse.
If you go to a doc who is giving injections of Prolia, he will tell you, its not from Prolia. On their leaflet it states, it should be given only when everything else has failed? and for cancer patients (bones) -
Needless to say, I am waiting for that day that hopefully the lumps will go away and the pains in the jaws, also the fluid in the left ear.
Please consider seriously not to take it in the first place, and not take the 2nd shot. One was enough to make my life and health, a miserable hell.
Irene,
So did you gain weight from the Prolia injection? Or is it hard to tell why?
Hi Daphne: I started gaining weight shortly after taking the injection. I did mention it to my Dr. and he said that it was a possible side effect. I have always been below 118 now I have gained 10 pounds and have tried everything to loose it - no dice. Hopefully I will be able to get back into my size 4 clothes.Right now I feel like a blimp. I also mentioned the fluid in my ears and if you check the side effects it says it can cause fluid. My hands and feet aren't as sore. I have been taking 1 teaspoon of cinnimon everymorning for inflamation it seems to be helping. can' hurt to try. He won't give me anything to get ride of the fluid, I wake up in the night with ear aches. Hope we all g et better real soon.
I was the same weight for 10 years and then after the Prolia gained about 6 pounds that just won't go away. I have noticed that I retain fluid as well now too. But have not noticed any in my ears.
Just for the record, I have had 3 prolia shots, and am due for a 4th one this month. No side effects whatsoever, and had an appreciable increase in bone density.
Congrat you are one lucky lady
What was wrong with you in the first place, to require 3 injections and the 4th coming up. You must be a very strong lady - but why did you need Prolia in the first place?
How old are you, do you have osteo, did you break a bone? Very interesting, if you could reply for us all.
I also had 3 shot's and as a said before live has been hell.
First week in September will be a year since the last shot.
I now have the occasional day when the body pains are getting less.
I can only hope that it will keep on improving.
I was given the Prolia injection in June 2011. Within one week I started to suffer from quite intense bone pain in my upper thigh as well as severe cramps in my hands and fingers. I don't believe my physician quite believed me, but the pain persisted for one year and kept me awake night after night. The pain in my thigh is finally gone, but my fingers still cramp up and the ligaments in my palm are swollen and painful. This has been going on now for over a year.
