Prolia Issues And Side Effects (Page 3) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am not going to have my next shot of Prolia due 11 June. I have already had two injections and lately have suffered horrible side effects such as terrible constipation, leg and foot cramps, skin rashes, stomach pain, etc.
I also found out that Prolia works by stopping the body's own bone production, causing old bone to become denser. This results in probable fractures due to old brittle bones, Prolia also causes low calcium levels in the blood, a weird side effect seeing it is supposed?to strengthen boned!
I have had high Calcium blood report lately after having 2 shots of Prolia
Also, regarding calcium -- you need to take 600mg three times a day and preferably with an acidic stomach like with orange juice, limeade or lemonade. The acidity breaks down the calcium quickly and that is what we want. Do not exceed that amount or you can go into hypocalcemia which means too much calcium so we need a good balance here. Prolia LOVES calcium and if it cannot get what it wants thru diet and supplements, then it attacks muscles to try to find more and more and more. It's a vicious circle. Pood
great decision Sal! I follow antiinflammatory diet and yoga as often as I can.
Thank you Poodle,
This explains why I can just barely keep my calcium levels in the normal range.
Very much appreciate the info.
Well said, Anni. It is like remodeling a house on a cracked foundation. Eventually the remodeling will fail.
Re: Sal (# 40)
I'm afraid to take it because so many people have the same problems you had. Of course the drs say without it you could end up in wheelchair so they scare you.
I'm sure they believe this but I'm not sure I do. Thanks for your post.
I'm so grateful for all these posts. I'm going to follow my hunches and not take Prolia. Perhaps try something else that may have less awful side affects. Anybody take anything else that works?
Re: Gracie (# 44)
That is wise. Even if we don't suffer side effects, there is still a chance for fractures, serious dental issues, etc.
It was when I found out that I had spinal fractures that I became frightened and vulnerable, agreeing to take it.
I am treating myself naturally ( see previous Post ). I am not yet due for a DEXA scan, but blood tests indicate that my markers for bone loss are now down.
Re: Gracie (# 39)
I had dental issues and Prolia made them so much worse.. and with Prolia, can't do extractions because it's very difficult for jaw bone to heal afterwards per my specialist... so wait until minimum of 3 years... unless you have abscess and need extraction for health reason. Others have done dental work sooner~ I'd assume we are all a bit different but with my tract record, I'll be extra cautious and wait... if I can. My teeth have been so loose with my overall body weakness post Prolia but doing better bit by bit...
I have now been diagnosed with myopathy; I am exhausted all the time and have painful muscle spasms; had my 3rd shot of Prolia and I more! Never felt so bad in my life!!
Re: Sharon (# 41)
That's a very good comment and they all seem to have the same end results from the commercials on TV. I fail to understand our drug industry at this time. Biologics for everything including acne. No Thank You!
Re: Poodle (# 19)
Annie and Poodle, in Australia we have the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), part of the Commonwealth Health Department. They have a database of adverse events. Up to September 2017 there have been 480 reports of adverse events relating to Prolia. You probably know this by now, but the whole Prolia thing is fairly new to me. Unfortunately, I am becoming intimately acquainted with Prolia and its dreadful side-effects.
Re: Linda (# 22)
Same thing happened to me three months after my first injection.i researched a study before the shot that cited many people stopped taking the drug due to constipation. When I discussed it with my doctor he said none of his patients suffered from that. I exercise daily, drink pleanty of water and fiber. Nothing short of a stimulant has worked
Re: Sodapop (# 52)
It seems to be a common response: "None of my other patients have complained of that". I find it to believe that we are the only ones! Perhaps they are not listening, or perhaps they don't take us seriously. When U complained that my body felt like a block of cement, I was told it was just my Fibromyalgia. 3 doctors later, when someone actually listened to me, it turned out that I had HypoCalcemia...a KNOWN side effect! Was I angry!
Re: Anni (# 4)
I am in Brisbane & l have osteoporosis & have chosen not to take any of these drug's either
also low potassium. Some ladies get more calcium than is normal and Prolia makes bones deposit bones where they are not supposed to be and inoperable such as on the bone that holds in the eye, sinus area, top of shoulders near neck and heart. It takes about 3 different surgeons to work on the shoulder/neck bone deposit. Lovely drug and for the life of me I am unable to understand the reasoning for it being released in the first place. It simply was a wonder drug that wasn't. Be well~Pood
Mason (# 64) --
Are you a doctor Mason ? By the way you are defending this drug while myself & other people are trying to help each other...l will say no more
Re: Sue (# 59)
Short answer 'yes' because Prolia diminishes our T-cells and T-cell helpers which keep our immune system in tip top shape. Without them to protect us, we are up for everything including cancer because it too is always in our bodies but a healthy immune system kills it before it can cause harm and grow. The same for all infections and viruses. Anyone on Prolia needs to be extra vigilant until the body is back to 'normal' again which seems to vary from person to person. Be well~Pood
Re: Poodle (# 77)
Yes boot the b&%$#d out....its hard enough to try and make a huge decision about these terrible drugs let alone listening to #%$#&% like that.
Re: Poodle (# 74)
Absolute disgrace from what l have read about this drug the last few years. I refused it 2-4yrs ago yet 2 yrs after another bad Bone Density this is yet again all l have been offered unfortunately...again l have to decline.
