Prolia Side Effects Duration (Page 11)
UpdatedWould like to know if anyone had side effects from Prolia but they went away - and how long did it take for that to happen?
Re: Janet (# 192)
Having taken Prolia, it in my opinion is a horrible drug, it has caused a lot of health problems for me. My GP doctor was horrified when he found out I had taken it. It was originally for bone cancer patients, and for me it has been a nightmare, so I would not be surprised at anything it could cause to your body. Hope this helps.

That no bending down and keeping eye in certain place is not much fun plus doing all the drops for it 4 times a day. I think my next macular pucker surgery will be in August which gives me time to rest from the previous one. It really takes about a full year for the eye to return to normal. The hole heals well with the 'bubble' behind it. There is more involved in a macular pucker than there is in a macular hole. It's actually two surgeries at the same time. You will again have the Vitrectomy together with Para Plans which means gently removing that stuck film without tearing the retina. If a tear starts, the surgeon uses an Endo Laser to 'heal it in place' which is a lot better than the old fashioned stitches they used to have to use. Mine for some reason completely changed my night time vision from a previous surgery I had in 1980. We don't know why because no stitches are used, just super thin needles. Nothing to fear. It will go well for you!
Re: BB (# 18)
Yes I took my last shot over two years ago and still have shortness of breath. I have had every test for lungs and heart and they are all ok. Doctors won't admit but told me no more shots
Re: teddt (# 190)
Did you have injections, or oral meds? If injections, how many did you have? I had one injection in June 2017. I seem to be one that hasn't had problems, except for hair loss and I'm not sure I can blame it on Prolia. I already had issues regarding other folk's complaints. My big issue is I went to a dentist that refused to do any dental work needed due to my long ago 1 injection. Good Luck.
Hi daphaneyoung, I have had horrible side effects from Prolia, I regret ever taking any injection of this horrible drug. It should be taken off the market and a class action law suit should be made against Amgen, the drug company that makes the drug. I do not believe my body will ever be the same. I am still suffering, trusted my doctor and was not told of the many horrible side effects of Prolia, it is deadly. I would not advise anyone to take it. Still suffering and my last shot was 2015.
I think it stays in our system for a long time but not sure. I've been bullied into taking it now for about 3 years but will never have another shot no matter what. The only person who agrees with me that my aching jaw and thigh bones could be an adverse effect of Prolia is my physiotherapist who I saw for the first time this week. He is going to try and help me with bone strengthening exercises so we will wait and see. I contacted Amgen (Australia) last week and had a phone call the same day from a rep who agree that these could be side effects but who then said that they are very rare, insinuating that it couldn't possibly be my problem. Really? She asked for the name of my GP which I refused to give her. Did she want the first guy who prescribed Prolia and who told me when I reported my aching jaw that it was neuralgia without even investigating if that was the case.Or did she want the second GP who bullied me into having it at least twice.I should have woken up after the first one but you really trust your medicos. Now I'm on the third GP who thinks that I don't understand my health condition and said so to the physiotherapist. I have not heard anything back from Amgen and do not expect to. It's a worry to think that we cannot trust our health professionals. My physio says that the Doctors just don't have the time or inclination to check our our complaints or even to believe us.
Re: Poodle (# 52)
My shot is 5 weeks old and I am really losing hair... thinning is way obvious. I have never had this problem and it is a blow to my self confidence. Is there a time when the loss stops or does it keep going till all of the hair is gone. I feel weird complaining because this is vanity, not health or life threatening, but it is still debilitating.
I just had a mammogram (which was fine) and a bone density test recently. I've received 2 calls from the rheumatologist's office saying I have osteoporosis and Prolia was mentioned both times.
I told them I can't take ANY osteoporosis drugs and I won't take Prolia again. I'm still suffering from bronchitis. It started April last year and went to December. It started up again end of March/ first part of April. I've had two doses of antibiotics already.
Just want to say for the record this is not my idea of fun. I did get a nebulizer but I had to pay for it since my insurance wouldn't. I'm now on 2 inhalers daily and a rescue inhaler.
And the saga continues...
Hugs and prayers to all!

Re: Laura (# 209)
Try water aerobics....excerise but less stress on joints.
Re: Laura (# 209)
Don’t use this drug. My mother died after 6 months.
Re: Phyllis (# 2)
Happened to me Phyllis. Was a long road back - walkers, canes, walking poles, finally PT in salt water pool with an excellent therapist - am now walking unaided - but very carefully - I went from 20% balance to 50% - - but I just returned from a jaunt to Iowa, a plane trip - - I made it - - it has been about 5 years post Prolia. There is hope, and also a lot of medical bills - - but there is hope!
Re: Laura (# 209)
Prolia is only supposed to be used when ALL of the others have failed. It's past time our Medical community learns this fact. I hope this info makes up your mind for you. Some people are able to tolerate Prolia when many others cannot. I'm years past one injection and still having problems such as sometimes gluten intolerance and my hair is horrid, shedding like a dog. I lost 68 pounds on Prolia in 2 months, got a cataract, severe gluten intolerance, lost roots to two teeth and had to have implants put in, not to mention the pain and suffering. Prolia is a very dangerous drug.
Re: Laura (# 209)
Have you got any access to a gym and/or a good physiotherapist? Fortunately we now live in a retirement village which has a gym as well as a good physio. He has started us on bone strengthening exercises which can only help. I would encourage you to seek help from someone in this field. My experiences with doctors of any stripe puts me right off getting further help from them. Because I am 79 we are able to get 5 visits to a physio without cost through medicare but need a referral from a GP.
Re: Poodle (# 213)
I was on fosamx 12 years ago for less than a year. I had aching all over and out of breathe. My doctor didn't believe me but when I went off all of the symptoms disappeared. Two years ago I started prolia and I had my fourth shot in december 2017. I had all over pain in my joints, muscles and bones. My current doctor agreed I should discontinue the prolia. In January I started taking hemp cbd oil twice a day and each week there was a gradual improvement. The past two weeks I feel so much better I am able to lift things , work in the garden, sleep better and do my yard work without hurting. I am going to continue the hemp cbd oil and not any osteoporosis meds.
I want to know if there are dialysis patients at stage 5 where prolia injection has been given and what are the consequences. Can you give this to dialysis patients and is this not dangerous if you do not urinate. Please let me know.
Re: Vickie (# 215)
Thank you so much, Vickie, I took Prolia shots and they have been a nightmare for me and no one, not even a doctor had any suggestions on combating the horrible side effects that are still holding me down. I will get hemp cbd oil immediately. Again thank you.
Re: Gloria (# 217)
I use Charlotte's Web CBD oil everyday. I buy from a local pharmacy and it is over the counter and has no THC high. Good luck.
Had 2 injections ..after 2 months started having bladder infections. In 4 months i had 3 bladder infections. Before each infection my perineum felt like it was on fire. Mind you I had not had an infection for 54 years. This last Dec. Had another infection and tis past April had another one. It has been almost 2 years since the last shot.G
Re: Marion (# 214)
I know Medicare changed some rules this year for PT but they will still pay for it after the 5 times IF you have met your deductible and have co-insurance and it's ordered by a Dr. and they ALL seem to LOVE PT. I'm having a lot of PT right now and it's way more than 5 times and Medicare is paying for it. I wonder if that oil really works. I have seen it advertised but I never thought there was enough of the real product to be of any use in the oil. That has been told to me by my friends that want it legalized so there could be some bias in their thinking. I may try it and see what happens. Cannot hurt me and may help. Thank you.
