Just left the doctor's office 20 minutes ago after my three-month follow up after a successful ablation
(two previous cardio versions failed). Doc gave me go ahead to get off Eliquis and on to a baby aspirin.

Lost 45 lbs., changed my diet, and walk 40 minutes per day in addition to diligently using my CPAP each night (sleep apnea was diagnosed one month after a AFIB!). Doc said to keep doing what I'm doing to maintain sinus rhythm.

Feeling better already! Keep the faith, everyone, and hang in there. It was a long 10-month journey for me.

Hi, I forgot to add 2 other things that happened while I was taking Eliquis. I was literally freezing all the time - even when it was 90 degrees outside I was so cold. The first thing I noticed on the first day without Eliquis was I felt a normal warmth again. Also, I never had a bleed but I bruised easily & the mark that it left took longer to heal & disappear. I’ve had no problem so far in starting on a baby aspirin.

The doctor who supplied the blood thinner is the only one who can give you a valid answer to your questions. That is because while the posters here are sincere, we all have different circumstances. Your doctor is the only one who knows your medical requirements. Tell the doctor you are uninsured and would like to know what options are available to you

I just found out two weeks ago that I had a blood clot in my right lung and they put me on Eliquis to I feel like I’ve been handed a death I thought once they gave you but then in shots in your stomach that that was the end of it and that you could just go home and take an aspirin but I guess not I don’t feel right taking these drugs I don’t sleep at night I wake up five times to make sure I’m still alive think I’m a little depressed about this whole thing

There is another way to look at your situation that is very favorable: a) you dodged an issue that is often fatal for some and, b) many of us have had blood clots in both lungs when we have had them.
Eliquis is not necessarily a "forever" type of medication. Your medical team may decide you can discontinue in due course. My vascular surgeon was right with me in my intention to get off, but then my behavior (sitting for long periods in front of a computer) induced the return of the DVT in my leg. He advised that with the second blood clot within 2 years he was not at all inclined to take me off any time soon. It appears blood clots can be removed surgically, but the trick is to identify the underlying cause or it may well just be a recurring event.
My recommendation: stay positive, keep testing your medical professionals and if necessary get multiple "second" opinions.
Good luck.

I hope you didn't take them. Sotalol and Eliquis really messed me up for several months. I was misdiagnosed with a stroke and afib and put on the drugs. No one wanted to take me off either as they were afraid of the results. Long story short, I'm off the drugs and feeling much better.

Contrary to my doctor I have split my 5 gram Eliquis making it a 2.5 mg. I add a baby aspirin and fish oil pill mid day. At 5 mg my nose bleeds were dangerous. No bleeds since. Also heard that Eliquis is thinking of making a 3.75 mg dose? Makes sense to me because most cardiologists won’t recommend 2.5 unless you are 80 yrs old.

I am curious to know if you had any problems after coming off the Eliquis.

Hi, I stopped taking Eliquis about a month ago. When I stopped I took a baby aspirin the following day & I’ Still taking the aspirin. I’ve had no problem with this . I sleep so much better at night now - had some insomnia while on Eliquis. I have an appointment to see my vascular doctor in Dec. If nothing happens before that I will post again & will post after the appointment. Best wishes to all involved with this regimen.

Re: Kay (# 74) Expand Referenced Message

My doctor told me to stop "cold turkey" and go on Aspirin 81 mg every day. Fortunately I had an appointment with another practitioner and was told to remain on 5 mg every day until I had an ultrasound showing no signs of clots. Hope this helps.

I tapered off. Every other day then every 2 and then every 3, then every 4 until the medicine was gone. Doctor didn't believe me when I told him the side effects I was having so I did it on my own.

I cut my 5mg in half solving my nose bleeds. So now I take essentially 2.5 mg and add in fish oil, flaxseed and a baby aspirin. All is well. I told the cardiologist that 2.5 must have some benefits! He said that there has never been a study on 2.5 mg. Well I did and I believe I am good.

For many years, I was a competitive runner. Also, I am a computer engineer. Discovered clots in lungs almost 3 minths, ago. No cause has ever been found. Given shots in stomach at hospital then xarealto. After 60 days could not handle side effects anymore. Moved to eliqius. Within 3 days, bleeding from recum and bad emotional mood swings. Dr took me off to dry out and get colonoscopy. Getting 2nd opinion on that procedure from my gi dr. Need only 3 weeks to hit 90 day Mark but Dr won't consider warfarin for that short of time and asprin either. Starting to get a clear head now but caught a cold and need asprin for the cold symptons. No side effects from being off so i am thinking of doing asprin on my own.

Re: Marty (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Marty I weaned myself off of Eliquis slowly I was on Eliquis 5 mg twice a day for year and I went down to 2.5 mg twice a day for six months and then 2.5 or a half a tablet for about two weeks. I would’ve stayed on 2.5 mg longer but my legs hurt me so bad and I wasn’t able to walk is good with your bad side effects in my Pinyan from our quest but I stopped it and one on 325 mg of aspirin once a day.

I wouldn't use the aspirin. try garlic capsules. garlic prevents platelets from sticking together, Take natural vitamin E every day. Hawthorn berries and drink lots of water!
