I as was on Eliquis for a short time. I was unable to breathe while in it. I take baby aspirin for my stents, but now in Xarelto. I’m doing so much better on Xarelto. Please check with your doctor before changing your meds. I was finally recommended to a Hematologists. Good luck but always remember the doctors only rely on your explanation and symptoms.
1. Discuss with your cardiologist and obtain his/her permission 2. Explain to him/her why you want to discontinue use. 3. Ask if you are a candidate for going off "cold turkey" or must you go off gradually.
I quit cold turkey with no side effects and take one 325 MG BAYER Aspirin each morning before breakfast. Been off for 4 years and doing fine.
Please remember each case is different and should be treated as such. Good luck.

The same for me, eliquis for afib, had ablation last month, hoping to get off the drug next month.. makes me tired, dizzy, nauseated, bad lack of oxygen sometimes, but I'm also on dilatazem, could be a culprit. Best of luck to you.
Always check with your Cardiologist to see if you are a stroke risk before switching from Eliquis to Aspirin. This is a must. I have been off Eliquis and have been taken 325 Bayer and feel great. I also have the blood work and physician consultation to back it up.
Very glad to find this page. Have been taking Eliquis 5mg 2x/day for 4+ months for an upper extremity DVT caused by a PICC line in the hospital. Have been dealing with worsening symptoms - began with noticing brain fog/trouble thinking. Can trace the beginning of these symptoms to when I began the Eliquis. Of course, this is not listed as a "side effect". Past couple of weeks, have also been feeling dizzy. Am going to see GP about cutting back or stopping the Eliquis!
I went from liquid to warfarin overnight after my electro physiologist put me on erleada. No consequences.
Re: Bootsz (# 3)
Be careful using aspirin in lieu of Eliquis. Aspirin just thins your blood, aspirin DOES NOT prevent formation of blood clots. Check with your doctor
Re: JAZZZY (# 120)
Thank you so much for sharing your story! I think following our inner guidance is important, and I'm with you there. They have me on Metoprolol and Eliquis and I want to get off them. I've been in constant afib for over a month now whereas for 16 years I always self-converted. I want to deal with this naturally and know what I need to do.
Ask you doctor if you are a stroke risk. If not, I would then ask your doctor if 325 MG Bayer would be just effective addressing possible stroke risk while working as a blood thinner. Ask your doctor.
Cold Turkey with your cardiologist's consent. I have been off Eliquis for 8 months and doing fine. I take a 325 MG aspirin with zero bad effects. You thin the blood and this helps avoid possible strokes. Absolute must have your doctor's consent as everyone's heart issues are not the same. Good luck.

HEllo there, I was on aspirin with elequis for only a month and then had another doppler and the thrombosis had gone! Mist have been my smoking 20 a day. I was scared stiff all the ime while taking both bit have had no repeated side effects . GOod luck I was in Germany.
Re: Yesi (# 6)
We understand how scary and sickening it is. From my understanding, the black box warning to not go off Eliquis is because its two related drugs have dangerous rebounds if you go off them. But I haven't found any actual research on Eliquis with this issue yet. So we can't risk going off, but we don't know for sure. They have us by the _ _ _ _ _!
Re: Marty (# 9)
I would like to be involved in the study. I have been on Eliquis for 2 weeks and developed stomach (gut) pains. Doctor Had me stop taking Eliquis for 48 hrs. Then Prescribed Xarelto, I am not taking the Xarelto after reading all the Horror Stories. I want to get back to taking aspirin 81mg daily.
Re: Marty (# 9)
Yes me too. We also need to push for research into rebound hypercoagulability specifically in the case of stopping Eliquis.
Re: Skip (# 160)
Thank you Skip. I am not putting down alcohol but if you have heart issues, especially AFIB an electrical problem. Then too much alcohol is not so good. Peaches are great but a gallon of peaches may not be so great.
Today is my wife's and mine 25th wedding anniversary which does indeed meet the qualifications of a "special occasion". I will enjoy a good fish dinner w/two beers and she will enjoy some wine. But that is it for any drinking until Thanksgiving and then Christmas. Skip your blood work also shows your liver function so my advice is to still enjoy but limit the amount. My wife and doctor calls it "common sense".
My best to you Skip and your brother.
Re: John (# 159)
Jesus! Prayers for you. If I had your experiences I would never touch a drop for the rest of my life.
Good Night!
Re: Skip (# 158)
You are very much correct that there are no absolutes concerning heart issues. There are items that cause more probabilities for AFIB issues. Your brother found his and he has a pace maker. Good for him. But we are not talking about your brother. We are talking about you. As I have said over and over again; each case is different by definition. My situation was primariy caused by way too much stress Drinking of anything did not help me out and it is not helping you out either. Having excess weight and obviously a family history of heart problems; add drinking too much and you will more AFIB problem than someone who does not drink heavily. Your own words; not mine. My only suggestion is to be completely honest with your Cardiologist. Have a drink or two on "special occasions" but you defending a position that makes no sense. You are 72 and I am 63. My point is you need to get your own plan that works for you. Not your brother, not Santa Claus...you. Get yourself a plan; get your cardiologist's ok and enjoy life.
My best.
I have had 3 open heart surgeries, a 5X bypass, 12 cardio convertions and 7 ablations.
Find what works for you and stick to it.
John
Re: John (# 157)
I have a younger brother; never drinks. Had afib, then a failed cardioversion which almost cost him his life (after his heart stopped at home the evening of). Finally had to have a pacemaker. Not saying you are wrongheaded. Just there's more to life than absolutes. On the advice of my DR, I am losing weight, using my CPAP religiously and limiting my alcohol consumption. RHR = 66-70 for two weeks. No return of symptoms. Reducing 5Mg of Eliquis to 2.5 per day w/1 81 Mg aspirin. Eventually (in two weeks, off) Withdrawing from Beta Blocker (never needed it b/4 for hypertension). After two days feeling better already. Thank You for your concern
Re: Skip (# 156)
Skip, Atrial Flutter is AFIB just as a Chevy and a Buick is a GMC product. Like I said honesty is the best policy as you can only hurt yourself. AFIB, FLUTTER or any electrical heart issue does not mesh well with too much alcohol.
Your choice. I wish you nothing but the best.,
Re: John (# 154)
My cardiologist says 2 drinks a night. I was not in Afib, but Atriel Flutter Thanks.
