Problem When Calling In My Refill To Doctor's Nurse.
UpdatedI have been having problems with my back for about 5 months now. This is after back surgery 10 years ago where the surgeon fused my L 4 and 5 discs, leaving the plates and screws in my back. My doctor put me on Norco and of course the regulations for this is that I have to get a written prescription for a refill, usually not a problem. But my past couple of call in to the doctor's nurse have been impossible. I signed a form explaining thirty day prescriptions giving a 24 to 48 hour response. And if the refill falls on the weekend it will be before that. Well before this I was only receiving a 22 day (90 quantity, 4 pills a day) prescription, taking 1 pill every 6 hours. I have not received a 30 day prescription yet after signing this form. When I tried to call to get my refill because my 22 day precription ends on Saturday. The nurse told me the doctor said it was to soon. Now this is Labor Day weekend and my pills run out Saturday. I had the prescription done on 8-13-15. I have been going to this doctor for years even before my back surgery and have never had a problem until this new nurse. I could understand if I was abusing the meds, but I am taking them the way the doctor has prescribed. I don't know what to do to get my prescription without all the hassle.

Hello, Tonya! How are you?
It sounds like the nurse is reading it as 3 a day prescription, because 90 at 4 a day actually works out to 22.5 days, which is not how a doctor usually prescribes them.
The best suggestion I can make it that you make an appointment to actually go see your doctor, in person, to clarify the issue.
The FDA classifies this medication is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Technically, your doctor should have you come in for an appointment monthly.
Is there anything else I can help with?
