I have bad eating binge eating disorder my dr is changing me from lexapro to the med pristiq i also have depression anytime someone in real life has offered me a life line i just ignore them i guess and run away. Please someone I dont know should i change? I did not think this drug was meant for anxiety problems like an ssr? HElp me i am so scared. ## Hi Jamie, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Based on my research, Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine) is in the drug class: Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It is used to treat major depressive disorder in adults. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances (serotonin and norepinephrine) in the brain and could improve your mood, feelings of well-being, and energy level. I imagine that your doctor pre...
I have been on Pristiq for two years 50mg, but have spent the past month in bed with nausea, fatigue, headache, body/joint aches/pain. I've had blood checked, etc. no problems. Decided to see if this one med that I take, that has helped in the past, is now making me sick. I can't find any good info on long-term problems online. I had been thinking that it was time to give my body a break, and will be cutting back, ie, every other day dosing, and look forward to seeing how I feel once out of my system. Any thoughts? ## Hello, just read your post and can tell you that I have experiencing something similar... switched to Pristiq (from Lexapro) back in 2011. Since then, my overall "health" has definitely declined - not to mention a 30+ lb. weight gain. I reached a point last...
I have been on Pristiq for about a year, after being on Zoloft for about 4. Zoloft was making me like a zombie, but ever since I've been on Pristiq, my wife and I fight, and I am barely able to control myself to the point I have now been physical with her, and I hate myself for this. I am sure it's the drugs, but probably me too. ## Hi Dave, From what I could gather, any signs of aggression you're experiencing are more than likely due to Pristiq. Agitation was listed as a side effect on some webpages, but there are also other side effects that in my opinion could eventually lead to having a short temper. A list of side effects can be found here: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a608022.html#side-effects It may be a good idea to try a more natural approach to getting rid...
been on pristiq 5 nearly 6 weeks but im still feeling shaky and sick .shouldnt i be better by now? heard it takes 6-8 weeks should i stick it out that long? ## No, it should only take about 4 to 6 weeks. If you're still feeling that awful, it would probably be a good idea to talk to your doctor. This most likely just isn't the right medication for you. Learn more Pristiq details here. Have you tried any others, or just this one? ## Sweetcakes, I hope by now you have seen your doctor regarding these symptoms, if not get there asap, this is not normal & have them help you in getting off the Pristiq! I also took this drug and it was the worst both while I was on it and getting off is very difficult it was for me anyway - so like Verwon said please seek medical attention you hav...
Treatment for Axiety ## The name of the medication is actually Pristiq, it contains the active ingredient Desvenlafaxine, it's an SNRI antidepressant. You can learn more Pristiq details here. It may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. It isn't that commonly used for anxiety, though some people resistant to other treatments have had good luck with these types of medications. Are there any questions or comments?
Is anyone taking these 2 medications together? I am new to all of this, was put on alprazolam for anxiety, and just started on 50mg pristiq last night. Was told to increase to 100mg after 1 week, then try alprazolam only when I feel I need it. Has anyone else used it like this. I don't usually have any medications at all, but had a rough year last year I don't think I faced, and was sent for an mri before shoulder surgery 5 weeks ago, and this has really triggered something !! Could not have it done. So now I am going on a cruise in 7 days, and feeling quite anxious about it still. There are so many conflicting stories! ## Hello, My findings state that there are in fact moderately unsafe interactions between these two drugs. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware o...
This has been the WORST detox of a medication I have ever had in my life. I was only on Pristiq for a few months and decided I didn't want this drug in my system. I had missed a dose the weekend prior to my decision and about went crazy with the brain zaps and feeling out of control with my emotions. I realized if missing ONE dose did this to my system, just how good could it be for me??? I told my doctor I wanted off, and started the weaning process. Here it is 6 weeks later and I sit here typing this while my ears are ringing so very loud, my brain is zapping, and I thought I was going to pass out when I went grocery shopping about an hour ago. This is absolute craziness. I can't believe I ever took this stuff. I have been on anti-depressants on and off for 20 years and now I ...
I feel betrayed that I didn't research this medication as a healthcare professional before I took this med. I have GAD and ADD. From what I've read this is going to be a miserable "detox". As a nurse I would call it that. I can be a few hours late and have symptoms; dizzy, electric feelings in my head, muddy thoughts. I have 4 children and work full-time, I hate thinking this medication because of "discontinuation symptoms" has so much control over my life. The FDA should def step up and put more warning labels on this matter. ## I am very sorry about what you're going through, I know that stopping these types of medications can be very difficult. However, it is all of these types of medications, not just Pristiq, these problems occur with anything that effec...
I take 50 mg Pristiq and have been doing so for about a year. I used to take OTC cold medicines to fight off a cold. My question is whether those with Dextromethorphan can be taken with Pristiq safely? ## Hello, My findings state that there are potentially unsafe interactions between Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) and Dextromethorphan. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of: "Talk to your doctor before using dextromethorphan together with desvenlafaxine. Combining these medications can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or st...
I switched to Pristiq Aug 2012 after being on Prozac which seemed to stopped helping me with depression. Two months later I developed a severe large intestine bleed accompanied with severe pain. After a CT which found inflammation I was put on Flagyl and Cipro. I developed diarrhea and was gettting worse instead of better after 4 days and was hospitalized. A cdiff culture came back positive which was probably non active until I was put on the antibiotics. (was on effexor not Pristiq in hospital) I was released and sent home (back on Pristiq). Three days later the bleeding started again and I was put back in the hospital. Cdiff negative this time. A colonoscopy showed non specific inflammation (no polyps etc.). (on effexor) Relased again and on flagyl for 10 more days. When the flagyl ra...
my dr just started me on pristiq today . i am also on 43 mlg of methadone are these meds safe to take together? ## My findings state that there are potentially unsafe interactions between these two drugs. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of: "Using methadone together with desvenlafaxine (pristiq) may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medica...
As a GAD and panic disorder with agoraphobia sufferer for over 10 years, I am no stranger to meds. I have been on Pristiq, however, for about 3 years, and have finally decided it`s time for a change. This medication really did nothing to help me with my illness`, but due to the horrifying withdraw process (which you can start to feel if you miss a dose by ever a few hours), I`ve stuck with it. My doc has decided to put me on prozac to help with the withdraw symptoms of pristiq. Has anyone tried this with any success? I start the whole process in 6 days and I`m completely freaking out. ## Is he having you taper the Pristiq? That's usually the best way to get off of these types of meds, a slow taper down on the one being stopped and titrating up on the new one. Learn more Prozac detai...
I have been on 100mg for about 4months and have had gr8 results with my depression and rage issues; but unfortunately not my motivation.... I still find it extremely hard to get up & move- no good when you are on your own with 2 little kids :( would increasing by dose to 150mg be of any benefit????? Please help :) ## I actually doubt that a higher dose would help with that. It is a fairly common problem that people experience with antidepressants and it usually gets more pronounced with higher doses. Learn more Pristiq details here. No drug is really a 'fix all'. There are some things you do have to find your own solutions for to help yourself. Are you in therapy? ## I can't move when on Pristiq. I constantly feel like I need to lie down. My doctor gives me 10 mg of exte...
I was doing realtively well at 50mg for about 3-4 weeks, All of a sudden the med pooped out on me and I found myself taking ativan everyday to compensate. My doc intitially told me to take half of a 50mg pill. My pharmacist told me not to do that s it is time released. Instead we upped the dosage to a full 100mg. I had some dififuclty staying alseep last night. Must have woke up 10 times. Anxiety levels are very high when not takign the ativan. It is a very difficult way to live. Is the 100mg doage dangerous? I think that I get very very high anxiety from the anxiety meds themselves. I had a friend at age 20 die from RX pills her doctor told her were safe. Since then, I have always had the fear of medication and it produces profund anxiety whiel transitioning. The only med that ever gav...
I have been on Pristiq for a couple of years now beginning on 50 mg then up to 100 mg for depression and anxiety. I am now experiencing some difficulty with time. For example I may be creating a flyer to send out which should take 30 minutes tops but before I know it 2 hours have passed and I have no idea why it has taken me this long. I look at the document and it is definitely not 2 hours worth of work. It is really weird and very unsettling. It is happening more and more and my ability to rationalise seems to be getting worse. Went to dr today and his answer is to increase dosage to 200 mg. Any thoughts out there? ## That's very odd and not something I've seen noted in the medication or information, or from other users. Learn more Pristiq details here. It almost makes me wond...
Is it safe to take pristiq er and Elavil pluse 10 mg of valuim together ## Hi Lessie, My findings state that there are in fact unsafe interactions between these 3 drugs. Posted below are the precautions you should be aware of... The following information applies to: Elavil (amitriptyline) + Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) "MONITOR CLOSELY: Concomitant use of agents with serotonergic activity such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, 5-HT1 receptor agonists, ergot alkaloids, lithium, St. John's wort, phenylpiperidine opioids, dextromethorphan, and tryptophan may potentiate the risk of serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A and 2A rece...
My husband and I decided to try for our third baby. I went in for 2 consultations to make sure that the 50mg I was taking once a day would not cause any problems. I was reassured twice that it was completely safe and would control my panic attacks while I was pregnant. I am 7 months pregnant and my son has been diagnosed with hrhs it is a severe heart condition... Women beware I have had 2 very healthy babies and now my third son is facing a life of open heart surgeries!!! ## I am very sorry about your child's diagnosis. On the Pristiq, I want to ask who told you it was safe? Learn more Pristiq details here. The reason I'm asking is because while no controlled studies have been done during pregnancy, it has been shown to cause problems, especially when taken during the third tri...
Finally! Pristiq terrible side effects are gone, they lasted for seven to eight days -only was on it for a couple of weeks-. (Dont stop taking it all of a sudden like I did) (Noticed some hair loss too) Thx ## I have been trying to get off of Pristiq for over two months now. It is the worst feeling ever! I am naueseated, and light headed. Have had diahreha. I came off very slow and still had these symptoms. For three days now, I have been totally off of it, and still feeling horrible. I have to go to work feeling this way. When will I feel better?!! No more medicines for me! ## @kim, Withdrawal symptoms are generally dependent upon how long you've been taking a certain medication. For some people withdrawal effects can last weeks or a couple months, while for others it may only last...
I started taking pristiq 5 months ago and since the have gained over 20 pounds! It helps to know that others have had the same problem. It has helped eased my anxiety and really helped the depression but the weight gain makes me more depressed. That's hard to handle. Does anyone have any solutions? ## If you want to stay on the Pristiq, then the best suggestions I can make would be for you to lower your calorie and fat intake, plus to up your exercise. Learn more Pristiq details here. Most medications that act on brain chemicals can cause weight gain and the only thing that will really change it is either switching off of the medication, or being proactive to prevent it. Has your doctor made any suggestions? ## My Dr simply says its not the pristiq. But I have gained 20 lbs since I ...
