Pristiq And Otc Cold Medicines

I take 50 mg Pristiq and have been doing so for about a year. I used to take OTC cold medicines to fight off a cold. My question is whether those with Dextromethorphan can be taken with Pristiq safely?

Hello,

My findings state that there are potentially unsafe interactions between Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) and Dextromethorphan. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of:

"Talk to your doctor before using dextromethorphan together with desvenlafaxine. Combining these medications can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. You should contact your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms while taking the medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor."

In regards to the other OTC cold medicines you have taken, could you give me the names of all of them so that I can search for any potentially harmful interactions between them and the Pristiq + Dextromethorphan? Thanks!

I hope the information I have provided thus far is helpful. :)
