Is there a generic: any different from Prilosec, what does it do?

Omeprazole is the generic for Prilosec and it's sold over the counter, no doctor needed. It is a proton pump inhibitor that blocks gastric acid secretions--acid reflux or GERD.

Some insurances will cover it though so you should always have the doctor write the scripts for any over the counter medications and the pharmacy will try to put it thru your insurance. Mine covers omeprazole. my Zyrtec . Ibuprofen so if you dont try every med how will you know right
