Prescribed Medications
UpdatedIs there a difference between the ingredients in oxycodone and oxycontin. I have been taking oxycodone30mg. for several years and my doctor changed my meds to oxycontin 60mg and the oxycontin broke me out in hives and made me feel like I couldn't breath. I had to go to emergency room to get help and even after this the doctor said I will get used to it if I continue with it. I'm really scared to take anymore. Please respond. Thank You. Lila. PS. I don't have email, can I use someone elses to get a response from you?

Hello, Lila! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problem you had.
I'm not a doctor, but I disagree with what yours said, because what I do know is that such severe reactions usually tend to get worse, with repeated exposure to the allergen, not better. If it was bad enough that you had to go to the ER, then that could be dangerous.
The active ingredient in them is the same, but the inactive are different.
The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
As to responses, you can just check back here. Or you can sign up for a free email of your own at Gmail, which is provided by Google.
What type of doctor are you seeing?
