Prepopik Laxative (Page 11)
UpdatedHas anyone in the US used this yet for colonscopy and what did it cost?
Keep drinking fluids :) it'll start soon.
Well I am glad there are so many helpful posts about Prepopik here. I am sitting here waiting to feel the need to go to the bathroom took my first does almost three hours ago. I have been drinking clear liquids all day.
Prepopik was used as a cleanse for my colonoscopy in Dec. 2014. I am a gastric bypass patient. Surgery four years ago. Cost was $95. Well worth every penny. Worked well. No vomiting, cramps or pain. I am a nurse of 32 years and this is my drug of choice prior to colonoscopy.
I used Prepopik exactly as suggested by my doctor - first dose 4:30pm and second dose 9:30pm the day before my (9am) colonoscopy.
The taste of Prepopik is def do-able, and all the additional liquid easy enough as well.
But nothing happened for me until 2am. I was nauseous most of the time and around 3am I felt like I had the flu. Then basically without warning, I had the next major toilet episode which was unpleasant.
The worst part: I wasn't completely cleaned out and have to have a repeat in 6mos so the dr can see the full picture.
I think the moral of the story is: start the morning before and eat light for several days prior.
I can take more of five glass of drink after the first dose?
I used Prepopik in Dec. 2015 prior to a colonoscopy. It is an orange powder mixed with only 5 ounces of water. There are two packets to drink. I only needed one. It was tasty and worked like magic. Real FAST. The cost was $95 but well worth it as I did not have to drink that horrible mag. citrate......
I am allergic to sulfa drugs as well so your comment put me at ease for that. I am also 112 pounds and was worried about the prepopik working TOO GOOD on my smaller petite frame, but it did well for you. I do my prep in four days. I am nervous but will be do my best. Anyone know if it is OK to drink the 5 ounce mixture slowly over a 30 minute period instead of gulping it?
My colonoscopy is in the morning and I am so nauseous I wish I could throw up! This is after 2nd packet. There has to be something better than this!
Just to update for others' warning: ended up vomiting about a dozen times (including in the waiting room for the colonoscopy) and had to get 2 bags of fluids because I was dehydrated and anti-nausea drugs - all before the colonoscopy! Now I am home and left with a massive headache, I believe it's from the dehydration. Needless to say, I will NEVER take this prep again!!!
Greatest prep EVER! Started working within 10 minutes!!! Got mine for free from Doc.
Just a follow up. I made sure to be hydrated days before I did the prepopik. I ate less fiber, less food in general a few days prior to taking prepopik. I went to bathroom after each dosage within 30 minutes. I also liked how I didn't stay on the potty forever. Was able to watch a movie in betwwen. Also, for me, no headache, no nausea, no tummy aches, no bloating or discomfort or any side effect for that matter except that immediately after drinking the prepopik both times I did have heart palpitations that lasted 15 minutes each. I don't know if it was just me since I get anxious taking meds, but it went away on its own. I had occasional skip beats throughout but again, not sure if that was just me or electrolyte issue. By the way, for the fluids I had water then lemonade flavor gatorade and alternated between the two. I think I made the right choices doing that.
Thank you for posting this. I took my first dose 6 hours ago and was starting to worry. This is my second colonoscopy. I took Colyte for the first one and it was awful. I swore I would never do it again. Prepopik is not cheap, but worth it.
Shannon, what pharmacy did you use?
Just a followup:
My initial dose kicked in 9 hours after taking it. No cramps. No bloating. No sudden and panicky need to race to the bathroom. Best of all, no having to down a gallon jug of salted bathtub water! It was so pleasant that one should be forced to use PEG 3350 anymore. To put it simply, it's cruel and unusual punishment.
Final note: my colonoscopy notes stated that cleanout was 'excellent'.d
Used product in July 2015. Not get feeling had to rush to bathroom. No nausea or headaches. Able to take a nap between doses. Drank lots of liquids for 2 days before test and light lunch at noon day before. Got prep free from doctor but would have been happy to pay the $126.00 at pharmacy. Test came out well. Will not dread the next one in 5 years.
I'm with you! Did the stuff just like it says too and then am told that I have to do a different prep because it didn't work.
Taste was not bad and first dose went well. However five hours after second dose I was still expelling large volume of liquid every 10 to 20 minutes with an exploding headache, violent sneezing and running nose. Also very bad cramps.
I took the first 5oz. Prepopik 2hrs. ago.. instantly felt nauseated. Awful after taste...dreading the 2nd dose. Feeling bloated as I am not much of a water drinker. Got to get through this..need to get checked out in the morning.
I took my first does at noon today for my colonoscopy tomorrow at 10 am. . It start d working I about an hour. First.. I have trouble taking liquid mess ( Ick!) so my dr said this one taste a bit like tang. He was right. I really had no problem taking it. I have had a lot of bloating and painful painful cramping. Not looking forward to does 2 at 10 pm. I think I am likely cleaned out now.. No idea how does two could take out more. Still. As far as ease in drinking this.. It was no problem..
I took my first pack at 2pm today and nothing happened for three hours. I have barely gone since then. It tasted good and no discomfort but I am afraid it won't work. I am thinking of taking the second pack a little early.
