Pregnant Women Beware

Fyi to anyone considering subutex or suboxone while pregnant-beware that your baby is passed your opiates. I took lortab and subutex while pregnant weaned off of all 8 weeks prior to delivery and my son has autism. I know that no one knows what causes autism, but it's not worth your experimentation! beware! if you don't stop before delivery your baby will have withdrawl and the hospital will know for sure. take good care.

I am 36 weeks pregnant, and have been on oxycodon for the entire time. I managed to get down to 45 mg, about a month ago, but told my doctors about my addiction bc i couldnt kick the habit myself. The doctor refered me to the methadone clinic but i didnt want to take methadone cause i can abuse it. Just got on subutex. 2 8mg tablets a day. Im so scared about the baby

Laura, your concern is understandable, but you definitely did the right thing by going to your doctor and getting help. That will help ensure that both you and your infant get the best possible care.

Thanx for the quick response verwon. Went to baby doctor this morning. Ultrasound still looks great they said. My due date is sept. 26th, but who knows when the baby will actually come. I will keep everyone posted about details as they develop though. I am praying and praying. Can they tell from an ultrasound if the baby has autisum/down syndrowne?

My name is shelly, i just read your comment of taking subutex while you were pregnant and your son has autism. I too was on subutex when i was pregnant with my son andi just found out he has autism, do u think subutex is the cause?

I need help I am 21 weeks pregnant and on subutex I want to get off because not only am I pregnant but my husband is threatening to leave me because of being on it I'm stressed out now but I want to stop now if I stop now those far before delivering would there be a chance the baby will be born without withdrawing please help

i also was on subutex while preg i got on asap prob 8 weeks and stayed on thru never used while on at all my son did have to stay on l2 nursery to be taken care of for withdraw but either than that he is amazing no problems whatsoever besides he was sensitive to lactose hes gonna be 2 in march and now he drinks milk fine they say everyone and baby is different but mine is doing awesome i was recently told he is extra bright by someone and super smart so im happy with the decision i made and honestly wish they wouldve kept me also on tex and not switched me over i have been in recovery never failed a u.a or anything but i do have abad reaction to suboxone and the strips which is why i feel like if it wasnt broke dont fix it as far as teh tex but hopefully everything works out for you listen to your drs but yourself as well and please dont let your husband stress you he has no idea my bf wasnt thrilled with it either he dnt use never has at all so he had no clue its better to be monitored and at least try to do something tht will help then to be abusing pills, H, etc and i wish you and your child the best

I also was on Subutex during my pregnancy with my 2 year old son. He also has autism. We don't quite know the severity yet. But I am also reading all over forums that many children are being diagnosed with autism after mom was prescribed subutex during pregnancy. I am starting to come to the conclusion that yes subutex causes autism in children whis mother was prescribed Subutex. But what makes me angry the most is that I wanted to get off subutex before my child was born and my doctor told me no that it would kill my unborn child. So I felt I was obligated to take it. After having my son I was speaking with the attending doc who had done their senior thesis on subutex and pregnancy and had found that it is just as dangerous as methadone if not more harmful to the baby. I was so angry. I sat there and cries as I watched my child's leg jerk. He was more fortunate than most babies suffering through withdrawal 4rrr:r

So after reading all the replies, my wife took subutex during her pregnancy. Our daughter is 3 now and she has been diagnosed with autism. We are still going through tons of testing and lots of drs. But I suspected the autism may have been caused by the subutex even though the drs said it was safe. I'm curious how many other children out there have mothers who took subutex and are autistic. I know it's a sensitive subject and lots of moms don't want too admit they were taking medications like these while pregnant. I salute you ladies for coming forward and being brave. It's women like you coming forward that is helping me come to my conclusion that if my wife and I decide to have another baby that she will be off the medications completely. {edited for privacy}. I wouldn't mind speaking to the other parents about what they're doing and how they're coping with the news of an autistic child. And also how severe is your child.
