Povidone Used As Inactive Ingredient Inflames My Stomach

Why is Povidone used as inactive ingredient in pills by certain companies? It makes me so sick. It inflames my stomach, esopgagus, and causes severe pain and nausea.

You need to check the PIL of everything they prescribe, BEFORE, you leave the pharmacy. I am allergic to povidone, it is listed on my patient records, and I always mention it when collecting prescriptions. Frequently I have had to return a medicine because it contains povidone, say 50% of the time. Yesterday at the hospital pharmacy [Treliske] they asked if I had any allergies, told them povidone, they still gave me tablets containing povidone. Said they had checked on computer but not PIL. I check on computer and povidone clearly listed so pharmacist yet again couldn't be bothered to check fully. I shall be taking this up in the national press.
Hello, Sharon! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you're having.
The FDA has an approved list of inactive ingredients that manufacturers can pick from. The list is based on their being inert, so they won't interfere with the action of the active ingredient and the fact that most people aren't allergic and/or don't react to them. On top of that, the quantities they are used in are so small, that they rarely trigger reactions in those are sensitive/allergic to them.
You are, basically, one of a very minute percentage of people.
Have you listed this allergy with your pharmacy and your doctor? If so, they should be able to check medications, before you get them, to make sure they can give you ones that are safe for you to take.
