Pota-Vi-Kin is listed as containing the active ingredient Phenoxymethylpenicillin, also commonly referred to as Penicillin V, it is an antibiotic that's used to treat various types of infections.
And, being as it is that old, it will likely not have much efficacy left, so taking it creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Antibiotics also only help if a sore throat has been caused by an actual infection.
