Positive Drug Test For Amphetamines Without Any Drug Use??

I take a drug test each month. I have not used any drugs, yet came up positive for amphetamines. I was sick around the time and took mucinex and sudafed. I am also on a few presciption medications, nexium, trazadone, cholonodine and bupropion (wellbutrin). Could someone tell me which drug or combinations would have made the positive test? I want to know so I can bring the meds in for the doctor to see I did not use any street drug.

It's most likely caused by the pseudoephedrine. This commonly causes false positives as it metabolizes into molecules similar to. Amphetamines. At this point the doctor would usually order a toxicology confirmatory test, aka gas chromatography mass spectrometry. This will and should distinguish the 2 and the doctor would definitely know it was a false positives.

Any cold medicine with DM in it absolutely can cause you to come up positive for amphetamines..They are many allergy medications as well

Bupropion shows as a positive for amphets.

I am assuming the false positive for AMP was from a urine drug test? Was it a dip test like you use at home or was it a lab GC/MS test. If it was a dip test (home test) the person/company testing you should have sent the sample to a lab for a confirmation test using GC/MS. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC/MS) is the "gold standard" for all drug testing. Since I am not a doctor, but knowing what I know, I would guess the mucinex and/or the sudafed are the drugs that might have caused a false positive. You could always get a consult from a medical review office (MRO). MRO are trained to read and interpret drug test results and say why it was a false positive for AMP.
