Plendil And Micardis

My mother was taken off of Plendil and placed on Micardis several months ago. Since then, she has had several falls, and the last two, she states she felt as if she blacked out before she fell. She is 81 years old, but this has been recent and I was wondering if the medication change may be a contributing factor.

Micardis contains the active ingredient Telmisartan, it is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure, and certain cardiac conditions.

Yes, it can cause dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, and general hypotension (low blood pressure) as side effects, so it could be causing, or contributing to her falling. Other side effects may include increase urination, and headache.

Is there on any other medications? Is her doctor aware of the falls?

Even if a fall didn't require medical attention, her doctor should be informed, so they can investigate the issue.
