I agree Verwon, but in this case the listed active and inactive ingredients and their amounts are identical. The only difference that additional searching has brought is that they are made in two different locations with their corresponding and slightly different company names.
Regural Adderall RX is manufactured by Shire PLC in PA. While the generic Adderall RX is manufactured by Shire LLC, a subsidiary of the parent company, in KY.
Two different states, two (or many more) different sources of ingredients (?).
A least this finding brings a little light to what could be driving the different side effects.
There is no generic for Adderall XR, the sustained release form. Some people do find the XR more tolerable, because of the variable release times of the drug and the way it is embedded in the material that delivers it.
I take generic Adderall, often referred to as the IR form. Besides my regular dose of 20 mg bid, I have an optional 10 mg up to twice a day. I use it to get prolonged drug levels if I have work requiring more focus during the day; I take it 2 or 2 1/2 hours after the 20 mg.
I like the IR form, because of its flexibility. I can take a 20mg dose as late as 7pm, if I plan to do some work during the evening. I can also take the smaller dose closer to bedtime and find it relaxing.
The brand name XR is more expensive in most prescription drug plans and typically is a higher tier drug than the generic IR. Even my generic is a tier 2 drug and has a copay.
According to their specs, listed below, they are exactly the same:

dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/mobile/lookup.cfm?ndc=00555-0787-02&start=1
The puzzling bit about them is the amount of anecdotal evidence declaring the brand name far superior (e.g., less headaches) than the generic version.
Any thoughts?
Identical. All of the Mixed Amphet. salts are manufactured by Shire, they also make brand name Adderall XR
Identical
I don't take this medication, but I can tell your that no, they aren't exactly the same.
Generics are allowed to differ from the name brand, in the amount of the active ingredient, by as much as plus, or minus 20%.
In addition, the inactive ingredients don't have to be the same at all and they can cause problems for some people that are sensitive to them.
