Please Help I Live In Ventura County California And Need A Doctor (Page 3)

I am 60 yr old female with Fibro since 1985. In January of 2011 I was diagnosed with MS and have severe leg pain (I need a walker to stand up). Since losing my job I am seeing a County Clinic Doctor who was giving me Vicodin ES 3x's/day. I told her once that I ran short due to breakthrough pain and she immediately cut me back to one regular vic a day!!!!!!! and gave me Elavil, Lyrica, Neurontin -- I am having so many side effects I don't know what meds are causing what........I need help, a liberal Doctor who will help me thru my daily pain. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer my post........thank you. Sue

Sue1812, I'm sorry to hear about your pain. I know how frustrating and debiliting things can become. My old Doc tried to manage my pain w/those same type of meds and I felt the same way, mostly all side effects. I thought that Neurontin was for people who have seizures. It's not funny how the doctors can assess your pain for you and prescribe something that targets the area of pain but not give you something actually for the pain. I had to jump through many hoops too, going through this and that and if I was having side effects they would send a message to the doctor who would then say, "well I don't know what else I can do for you" or the phone operator would say "yah just stop taking that ok". I have heard other stories like this. My friend who was mutilated in a car wreck went too see a doctor who gives her about 20 Vic a month as well. I think it is sad especially to see a young woman turning to alcohol to compensate for this. It almost makes one wonder that there is a limited supply of Vicodin in the world and only certain people are allowed to manage their pain with it. Hang in there I know it feels like they are trying to control you through your lack of meds eventually you will find a doctor you relate to and cares about helping you manage your pain. I'm one of the lucky ones and I am thankful for that. I am also thankful for people like you who are honest and who I know cares about me too.

Hi Sue, sorry to hear about your situation. Yes, many doctors are afraid to prescribe too many pain medications because they do not want to face an inquiry from the DEA or risk having their license revoked. While that is understandable, I think may of them go too far, and fail to allow legitimate patients such as yourself to get the medications they need.

In Oxnard there is a center called Oxnard Family Circle, which seems like it might be a good option. Have a look at their page about Pain Management to see if what they offer is in line with your needs. They are located at 5000 South C. Street, Oxnard CA, 93033.

What kind of side affects are you having? I have heard that its the law if you are in pain and ask for meds they have to give them to you .
