I was taken off plavix three weeks ago after having been on it for two years ( had stents put in ). I am now having terrible thigh pains and into the hip. In the morning it is manageable but by afternoon I can barely walk. Might this be a withdrawal or might it be something else all together ?
Have you consulted your doctor?
It is very hard to say what might be causing it.
Yes, there is always the possibility that it is from stopping the medication. Plavix contains Clopidogrel, which is used to inhibit clotting and, sometimes, stopping it abruptly can cause a rebound effect, which could result in increased clotting. If you are getting them in your thigh and hip, that could explain your pain.
However, there are also many other possible causes and only your doctor will be able to help you find the correct diagnosis.

thank you for your comeback. I have a docs appt. tomorrow and will get back to you.
I have the exact symptoms from Plavix withdrawal.
Was Plavix the cause of your symptoms? Please reply.
Iam 84 yrs old. I takea lot of rxs Warfarin ,lipitor . metroprolol tartate, thyroid, niacin, nexium, plavix,co q 10 and a lpt of vitamins. Could this conglomerat be causing bouts of sweat?
My Dad had been on Plavix for 4 years after a stint...he was taken off of it abruptly after he was admitted into the hospital after some kind of stomach virus (I guess). Doctors never really told us what he had, but he did have severe dehydration AND they found out his blood platelets were extremely low. He also was having severe thigh pain and not one doctor could tell us why. He made an appointment for a bone marrow biopsy. He just kept feeling weaker and weaker and before he could meet his appointment, he ended up in the hospital again... come to find out, he had Acute Myeloid Leukemia!! We found out on a Wed...he was dead the following Mon!! I'm convinced Plavix messed up my Dad's blood. He had been healthy all of his life and the stint was because of a kink in his artery that he was probably born with...not because of high cholesterol. I hope and pray this does not happen to you!
So sorry to hear about your Dad and your thoughts that it was the Plavix. My Dad was fit and healthy before he went for a health check. They found he had some plaque build up and said he would be dead within a year if they didn't do a triple heart bypass. He fell into their hands, he had trouble from then on, put on so many drugs and warfarin, no energy, looked awful. Before that he was over 80 years old and doing long bike rides and was fitter than me. They ruined the rest of his life which was made shorter by them. He couldn't go away, always taking diagnostics for the warfarin, every day he had to wait in for nurses. It ruled his life. From one day being fit and well and probably needing to take some plaque clearing Red Yeast rice or something natural it effectively ended his life. I was very bitter at the time but there is nothing you can do to change the outcome, you have to accept that this has happened and he would want you to move on. I must say that after my problems and my Mum on Plavix that from all my research I have never come across a link with leukeamia but I know that my eosonophil levels were high and have now gone back to normal. If he was being sick and ill then the Plavix wouldn't have been in his sytem and maybe the pains were blood clots from dehydration and no Plavix. Did your Dad have a post mortem? I always now have print outs of any diagnostics done for my own information. I have learnt from my Dad's passing from all the drugs and interventions that I don't trust doctors and I get second opions from integrative health specialists and often natural treatments and supplements can do the same as drugs. My Mum is 91 and on natural blood thinners, natural blood pressure supplements and takes no drugs, she is fit and well, lives in her own home still. No statins, nothing, just good food, gluten and sugar free. May your pain and anger subside and use your knowledge to help others. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and I look back at the good times with a smile now, as Dad would have wanted.
