Placing The Patch For Very Underweight Person
UpdatedHi, I was recently prescribed the Watson 75 mg. patch. So far it has been an absolute miracle. Finally, managable pain!!! I had a brain aneurism and stroke about 4 years ago which went undiagnosed for 2 weeks. For some reason this has left me with horrific headaches. My problem is that I am 5' 6'' tall and weigh about 80 pounds. Placing the patch is a real problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Amanda,
I'm glad this medication is working for you, I'm surprised that the 75 mg dose is safe for someone so petite. Is there a specific area in which the patch has to be placed? If you're having trouble getting it to stay on, maybe you could try attaching a layer of tape to each side of the patch and place it on your back, or wrap it around your leg? I hope that makes sense. Have you talked with your doctor about this? He might have some ideas, as I bet you aren't the only person who has had this issue.
I haven't had any experience with this patch, but I hope my advice is helpful!
When I was first placed on Fentynal patches, it was Watson brand, and it would not stick. I was told to tape it down. Or use Tegaderm, which I am allergic to.
My pharmacy changed suppliers, so my brand changed to Mylan. It stayed put! No tape.
BIG difference between Watson & Mylan brands is how it is made. Watson uses 2 layers, with medicine gel between layers. Mylan uses 1 layer, and med is in that layer. Very thin, and no possibility of a leak or rupture. No crackly noise. I WAY prefer Mylan.
Ask your pharmacy if they will order Mylan brand for you, or change pharmacies to one that carries Mylan. You will love the difference.
Placement recommendation from the pharmacist is at or above the heart. Upper arm or shoulder are recommended. Since I don't want it to show, and I change my patch myself, I put the patch on my breast. It is hidden, still stays in place, and is at the right level.
Hope this helps!
