Pill Taste Like Poison/ Acid

White, round pill. 54 879 imprint on one side and a line on other side. I have had prescription pain meds for years, I know what bitter is, but this one had a taste so bad I spit it out immediately and it burned slightly. The taste stayed for about fifteen minutes. It also made my other pills smell really bad like a poison bad smell. . It was like nothing I ever smelled or tasted before. I had it in my mouth about 2 seconds, no water and out it came and the imprint was gone it seemed very fragile and abnormally thick. So is it Fake? Poison? Or is that how they taste I have never had one before.

Hello, Ivy! How are you? I am very sorry about the symptoms you experienced.

No pill should be held in your mouth for any length of time, they are intended to be swallowed immediately with a full, 8 ounce, glass of water. The pill should be placed as far back in your mouth, as possible, to the point just short of gagging. They are not meant to be tasted, unless they are specifically manufactured to be chewable, or sublingual, according to NIH reports.

As to how this particular pill tastes, I cannot say, since I've never taken it myself, but I can tell that there are many I accidentally took wrong and wish I hadn't. LOL For instance, I've discovered that generic Benadryl will make my entire tongue go numb, if it starts to dissolve in my mouth; the medication I take for heart function is so bitter that it will actually make me vomit; and the one I take for blood pressure tends to cause bad acid reflux, if I don't take it with enough liquid.

The relevant question is, was the tablet in question obtained via a legitimate licensed U.S. pharmacy? If so, there is nothing to worry about.
